I was processing the Field Destroy at work (damaged items that have a value too low for refurbishment to be worthwhile, so we break them and toss them) and I was slicing up discs with a razor as I'm often known to do. Every once in a while I'll catch a little skin here and there, but it's super rare and never serious when I do.

Until today, when apparently I decided to miss one disc entirely and just slice a quarter inch into my thumb at an angle just right that severed the princeps pollicis and caused me to bleed out for a little over half an hour. I used half a roll of gauze between the first time I wrapped it and the third time I wrapped it. That was a lot of blood. Like, anime-style squirting everywhere for the first fifteen seconds or so.

It was kinda cool.

BUT NOW I CAN'T BINGE FINAL FANTASY XIV AND I AM UPSET

Fortunately, I don't really need the left thumb while typing, so I can at least manage this to some extent.

I felt like I was stuck on some really troutty stage in Sonic the Hedgehog for a few months there, moving super fast and spinning in circles and generally failing at doing both of those things efficiently. But recently, it's like I've finally beaten that stage and progressed to the Bonus Stage. Now all I have to do is collect a metric smurfton of rings before the timer runs out, and I'm a winner regardless. This is a good feeling.

There are new people in my life, old friends back in my life, and others still becoming something closer. All of the pieces are falling back into place and I really couldn't be more pleased with my crazy late nights and ridiculous party habits. I still get ample rest and find opportunities to avoid shirking any responsibility whatsoever. There is balance.

Today, I ruptured my posterior cruciate ligament. Again. And the best part? I was WALKING. Walking in a line. Not turning, not twisting, not running, not juking, not getting tackled, not ice skating, not cycling, not falling, not jumping... I was walking. Walking in a line.

This is the seventh time I've blown out my right knee; the fourth time the PCL has been affected. The first time I shredded the whole thing... PCL, ACL, MCL - half my life ago, I took one hell of a hit that set me up for almost fourteen more years of knee misery. Ah, football.

It's time for that knee replacement.

This isn't a surgery I really want to have. I work retail, and I need to be mobile. Since my re-injury in May of 2012, I utilized a heavy-duty brace to hold myself up for about ten months. Only this past March was I finally able to stray away from the brace for instances longer than an hour. With the exception of a handful of days, I've been brace-free for almost four months. But it's been getting worse, the last month or so. Mid-shift, feeling weak in the knee, wanting to get the brace out of the car... being stubborn and dealing with it... caving in and getting the brace...

And then today happened.

Looks like I won't be brace-free for Vegas at the end of the month after all. This monstrosity will be a nightmare at the airports, too.

Oh, right. And the surgery I've been putting off for years. There's that.

This is one of the sweetest girls I've ever known, and something so shitty couldn't have happened to someone less deserving of it. She'll probably need half of her cervix amputated, and now she may not have an opportunity to be a mommy in the future.

I don't even know how to really react to this. I can absolutely support her in any way possible, if she just wants someone to listen of course, but I feel so completely lost otherwise.
Today is not a happy day.

Well, yesterday I picked up the key to the new apartment. As of today, I have 49 days remaining to shift from one apartment in what was a nice gated community three years ago (and is now less-nice... tenants are great but surrounding area has gone downhill) into a non-gated community that's very quite and in a lovely part of town. It's not -really- closer to work. It's almost exactly the same distance, but now I'm way off the highway and in a great quiet area nestled between a fantastic (gigantic) park and some old, rich neighborhoods.

Tomorrow I'm going to buy fresh essentials - shower liner/curtain, smaller computer desk, a smaller TV stand for my bedroom, a blackout curtain for the patio door in my bedroom, and a curtain rod, mounting hooks, and S-hooks for the kitchen.

The first item on the list has obvious uses. The shower curtain I've got now has gotten grungy over the last three years, and I never did put a liner in the damn thing. Self-explanatory.

The second item? The "desk" I have in the living room now is a giant folding table with lots of space. It's a great utility piece, but the new apartment has two living areas - each a little smaller than the one living area in my current apartment. Instead, the folding table will end up in the hall closet, and will make appearances for parties as a serving table in the kitchen. The PC will come live in the bedroom, so I need something a little more efficient.

The third item? I could use my existing "stand" if I needed to, but then I couldn't put the TV where I'd like to put it. Right now, it sits (along with my systems) on a long pane of glass balanced on two small black end tables. The concoction is too wide for where I want to put the TV... the gap between where the door swings open and the bathroom door's opening is too narrow by about six inches, and I don't want to take any chances of that door hitting anything that holds electronics. I can repurpose this piece elsewhere in the apartment.

The fourth item? Should also be self-explanatory. I don't mind light at all - it's more about not letting people see into the bedroom. Though, blockading that entire thing would remove my view out into the pool. Perhaps I'll find some happy medium.

The fifth? Our kitchen has a viewport over the sink that overlooks the bigger living room. We're gonna hang a rod and utilize the S-hooks to hold all of our pots, restaurant-style. This is good, because I have a few ridiculously large cooking utensils, as does the new roommate! We might happen to love food. I'm all for spending money up front to make utensil storage a breeze.

I've got a fair budget for this. I was originally worried about having to pay for two apartments for two months. It still sucks, but on yesterday's paycheck, I already moved the rent for one apartment into my secondary account for safekeeping, so I'll only have to worry about one apartment's rent out of the check on the 24th. This is incredibly ideal. We're already looking at stylistic things for subsequent paychecks as well - things that aren't essential to organization, but will be nice to have.

Dinner and a movie earlier this evening was quite nice. Got together with Morgan, sat down, and saw Iron Man 3. I could have a whole debate of sorts regarding the movie, but I rather enjoyed it. The teasers and trailers showed a lot of action but it was actually spread out quite nicely. Loved the pacing. Fantastic movie. Good little dialogue sequence leading into the credits, and of course, the post-credit teaser.

So this all came up yesterday when I randomly asked her if she'd seen Iron Man 3 yet, and if she'd want to see it after her last exam today. I honestly didn't expect her to say yes because I figured she'd be working, so that was a delightful surprise. After the movie, she asked me if I would see The Great Gatsby with her - so we're going to a launch showing tomorrow night. We bought the tickets on the way out of the theatre tonight. That was certainly unexpected; not only to head out two nights in a row, but for her to make the move on the encore. Not complaining!

It's such a mixed bag of feelings, though. I'm quite fond of her, and she's gorgeous, so that's a sweet little bonus on the side. The girl is all over the place, all the time. She's a fountain of fun, but I know she doesn't want to start anything serious because she might be moving to another campus in the fall. I don't really want to mess with distance either, not that we've even had any conversations about us "dating" or anything with labels. I'm perfectly fine with just spending more time together this summer like we did last summer. If she stays, awesome, maybe we'll see where it goes. If she leaves, no harm done.

I was on such a roll earlier, farming Carabosse with Azadrael. I'm itching to get back in! If I'd known this would be a nearly three hour process, I would have waited to do this until AFTER everyone had gone to bed, not during everyone's dinner & Game of Thrones break.

I've been killing a lot of this time in the IRC chat for EoFF and checking the wiki for Geomancer stuff. I'm really liking the concept of Geomancer as a sub for Dancer. As a front-line support role, running around with auras and keeping Aspir Samba II up for GEO's MP usage... looks pretty cool. I'll probably run DNC/WAR 80% of the time I'm on DNC, but it'll be nice to try out something fresh. I've got DNC up to 82 now and I'm still experimenting with combinations.

I did a lot of discussion today with Phinn (some of you may remember him as postalblowfish7 here on TFF years ago) regarding subjob choices for WHM. Now that Tintalle has WHM up to endgame as well, they don't need me to sub BLM or RDM like they used to... which is good, because I've never bothered to really level the other mage jobs anyway. I play WHM as a front-line job, typically subbing DNC and dual-wielding hammers. TP to cure, MP for everything else. It's incredibly efficient on anything that isn't exceptionally evasive. Even still, we talked about RDM... I think it's about time I bring it up out of the single digit levels and run that bitch up to 50. Every once in a while, I'm needed as a back-line WHM, and though I've got all the proper gear for it, I'm often gimped due to vastly underleveled subjobs.

Man... how many people here still play FFXI? I know Dawezy is a regular with me, of course, and ZRO is on occasionally, but I feel like nobody else plays any more. I think I saw Merlin a couple weeks ago. :3

Words.

So I still play the ever-loving smurf out of FFXI. I'm actually bothered by the fact that I haven't ordered Seekers of Adoulin yet. YIKES. I gotta check out the Geomancer and Rune Fencer classes! I'm sure they're just the bee's knees, or something along those lines.

I'm pretty sure bees don't actually have knees in the standard sense.

I'm baking peanut butter cup cookies with MaKayla this afternoon. She hasn't yet told me if the dough base will be standard, peanut butter, or chocolate. Maybe we can whip up some zebra cookies and then toss the cups in the batter. Oh man, these cookies are going to be SO MESSY.

I've paid off every game I'm buying between now and the end of July. This is a good thing, because starting today, I have to pay rent for two apartments for two months. I can move into my new place in nine more days, but my lease in the current place doesn't end until June 30th. The only good thing about this is that I don't have to take vacation in order to move my trout in some kind of ridiculous hurry. I can take my time and move things over in an order that makes sense so I don't ever have to do any real unpacking. This is nice... but the $3400 in rent for the next two months won't be (total, over the two months... not each month, that would blow ass).

This FFXI update needs to hurry up and finish patching. I'm getting sad thinking about how much money I'm wasting paying for two homes at once.

BUT THERE WILL BE COOKIES LATER, and that makes everything okay.

But it's true. I was supposed to have turned in my hourly associate reviews by this morning, aaaaaaand I kinda haven't even started on them. Granted, as long as MY boss gets them before the start of business Monday, it's all fine. But when you set a soft cap deadline of Friday night, and then Saturday night comes and goes and you don't even start on a thing, well... yeah. I'm a little bad about that, I suppose.

I'm more interested in going to work, then taking conference calls, partying, and then coming home and doing laundry and cooking food and catching up on Game of Thrones and trolling the internets for an hour or so, it seems. And and and and. A fair bit of excuse, that's all I'm seeing. SO MUCH DISTRACTION

Oh hey, hello internet.

To make matters worse, I actually already finished all of my employee reviews on scratch paper, and all I actually need to do is copy my data over into the web documents and send them in an email. I am awful.
