I spread it around on some forums and it's got about a dozen serious responses. I say serious because I've had just as many people answer it that were clearly trolling. One person answered everything with Cory in the house (I know it's meme, but that is clearly not what I'm after). If anyone wants to give me some usable answers for this survey, you can take it here:

I made it to week 4. I didn't get get fired, and it went much better than week 3. In fact, I completed my core training program, and am going to be receiving an employee ID card with my next paycheck that will entitle me to discounts. And as such, I think this will probably be my last entry about this job unless something major comes up, as it's been about a month so I don't think I can call it "new" for much longer. :)

We got another new person, and I think they're still looking for more people. We have plenty of people now because it's summer, but once school and college start up again they're going to lose a lot of people. I was hoping this meant they might shift my days off around so I could have weekends off (as people in school could still work weekends) but it doesn't look like that will be the case.

I also put in my first request for a day off. I was super nervous when filling out the form, so much so that I forgot to write down what day I wanted off. They had me fix my mistake though, and so far it looks like I have a decent shot at getting the request honored. I won't know for sure until the schedule for that date comes out though.

As far as fitting in, I'm making slow progress. I'll sometimes get a question or two thrown my way during conversations now. I hoping it goes well with the new hires since they'll be even newer than I am, so hopefully it won't be so intimidating trying to talk to them.

And I guess that about sums up my first month. Thanks to everyone who left tips or encouraging words. And to anyone starting a new job of their own, hopefully this gives you some sort of idea of what to expect. If I can live through it, anyone can. ;)

I survived week 3...barely. It was a pretty awful week to be honest. I kept making mistakes and it felt like everything that could go wrong did go wrong. I'm kind of worried I'm going to get fired now. Short summary of some of the things that happened:

I read a customer's order to 2 pizzas and a drink back them them, they say it's correct and pay for it, then walk off...without the drink. Turns out the drink actually belonged to the next person in line, and the first person didn't order a drink at all. So then the person whose drink it actually was starts yelling at me for charging the first person for something they didn't order...even though I'd read the order back to them and they said it was right. So I ran out and gave the first person their money back, and they thankfully left me alone after that. I really felt like crying though.

Other more minor things went wrong during the week too. For example while using the restroom their I heard someone tell another person not to use the other stall because it was out of toilet paper. So I tell my supervisor and they sent someone down to fix it...only to find out the stall actually DID have toilet paper, and all the person would have had to do was move the slider knob to get to the next roll. I got chewed out for not checking myself to be sure it actually was out, and wasting other people's time.

I'm not making a lot of progress at fitting in either. And it's getting me really worried I'll be replaced as soon as they find more people, and I really can't afford to lose this job. So in an effort to bring myself some good karma, I used part of my paycheck to bring dessert home for my family. I'm going to surprise them with fudge after dinner. Hopefully seeing them happy will cheer me up a little, and bring some good karma my way.

First off, we got another new recruit. I'm not the only newbie anymore! :jess: They actually get to work with the pizza though, which is kind of sad considering I still haven't got to do that yet. I have been allowed to operate the cash register though, so one small step at a time I guess.

I also had a semi-conversation with one of my co-workers. They were discussing videogames, and I mentioned I played Final Fantasy. Turns out FFX is both of our favorites. We also talked about Smash Bros for a little bit. I haven't really had much conversation with anyone past that though, but it's progress nonetheless!

And last, but certainly not least, I got my first paycheck. It was glorious. :)

I finally got a job after looking for over a month. I work in a little pizza, place although I actually haven't done anything with pizza yet. Mostly I deal with sandwiches, drinks, and cleaning. I've only worked there for a short while, but it's given me a sort of admiration for people in the service industry. Standing on your feet for 8 hours with no rest save a lunch break makes them sore. It kind of makes me wish I'd thought to look for a job answering telephones, because at least then I'd get to sit in a nice air conditioned building. But other than than that the job isn't too bad, and I really do need it. Saving up for University is tough.

I guess I kind of worry I'll lose it though. I find it hard to fit in comfortably with my co-workers, and we don't really share many common interests. Although I suppose that's to be expected considering they're all at least a few years older or younger than me. But it doesn't help that I'm socially awkward to begin with. I want to be able to join in on the conversations, but it's hard for me to be able to contribute more than a line or two. And these days, it less about what you know and more about who you know. Being able to make connections is important.
