• Final Fantasy VII PC Rerelease

Confirmed details--like price and release date--are scarce, but they have confirmed that it will come with a few modernized features. It will have 36 achievements, a "Character Booster" that will let you alter the stats of your party, and cloud saves so you can play it from any computer it's installed on.

A little strange that it doesn't seem like it will be released on Steam, which it was initially rumoured to be planned for. Steam already has systems in place for achievements and cloud saves, so it does seem odd that it's "Exclusive" to Square Enix's online store.

In any case, check out the details at the link below.

Final Fantasy VII's PC rerelease is happening | RPG Site

Square Enix has just confirmed that Final Fantasy VII's PC rerelease is real.

We reported that Square Enix had working versions of the PC ports for FF7 and FF8 on Steam back in June of 2011. Rumours resurfaced last month, a year on, when an official website for the game was accidentally leaked by a Square Enix blunder.

    That website is now online.
    IT IS HAPPENING. YES.

Another thing that just humorously crossed my mind is the whole notion of "Cloud Saves", considering the protagonist.

Ohh...everysite that reported this seems to have tripped that joke as well.

Anyways I'm definitely picking this up on steam!

I won't get it unless it's released on Steam. Ah who am I kidding of course I will.

That sucks. Might not get it now.

Not really a big deal for me... but being honest with myself I will probably end up buying it somewhere down the road.

Yeah, that "Character Booster" thing is incredibly lame.

Unless they've done SOMETHING to make it superior to past releases, like, updated the resolution, or given it decent resolution FMVs, I won't be buying it.

On the website, the minimum system requirements say you need at least 1GB of RAM and a 2GHZ processor. That's either a gross exaggeration, or they really did enhance it somewhere, because the original game, be it the PlayStation version, the PC version, or the PlayStation version enhanced through an emulator, doesn't take anywhere near that to run.

I'll wait until someone else buys it and reveals the differences, if any.

I think that's just a result of them re-packaging it for DirectX9, not so much them increasing the quality or resolution. It's be nice if they re-rendered all of the background images to a higher resolution, at least in this day and age the rendering times would be nothing but they also would have to get digital painters to paint over them (they did this with FF8 and 9 as well) and then splice them up to work in the engine they use. That could take them quite a bit of time, and probably don't have the budget to deligate resources to.

      Character descriptions - Cid:
      "a tough-talking, warm-hearted old pilot"
      Age: 32

      (I'm 30)
      ("Old")

Anyway, looking forward to it! Any excuse to re-play that game!

Lol, just remember most rpg's are made for kids who have barely started puberty. And these kids that have barely started puberty don't want to think that they are to young to go on these grand adventures. They want to think that they are just the right age.

FF7 actually isn't as bad about the character ages as most rpg's are. Cloud, Tifa, and Aeris are actualy several years older than most main characters in rpg's are.

Also, in Japanese culture, 30 and beyond is "old."

My goodness, until I saw them at that resolution on that website I'd never noticed how horrifying Tifa's, Aeris' and Yuffie's eyes are in the official artwork.

Anyways I may consider getting this, emphasis placed heavily on may.

That's the irony of it. People in Japan are statistically living longer than most of the world. They also show their age far less.

Hmm, they must have a lot more of an old fashioned society than America does then. In America the 30's is often considered to be an even more attractive phase of life than the 20's are. And most people would consider a 30 year old to be far more attractive than a 20 year old.

"Old" isn't really an insult in Japan.

It isn't meant to be an insult. From what I understand, the culture considers middle age and up to be "old." Simple as that. In most anime or video games I have played that was created in Japan, while the also call the elderly old, they say the same for anybody in their 30s or above.

Example: In Tales of Vespira, Raven is consider the "old man" of the party and he is 35.
