• Is Agni's Philosophy actually a game?

Last year at E3 we saw the beautiful tech demo of Agni's Philosophy. It showed off Square-Enix's powerful new real time graphic engine for their future games called the Luminous Engine. Before they just insisted it was a tech demo to show off the graphics and what they were capable on the next generation's systems. Take a look again at the demo!

Pretty right? Many fans thought that was all there was, some holding out hope for its actual game production. In a recent interview with the CTO of Square Enix, Julien Merceron at Paris Games Week with the french website ffdream.com, let a little information slip about the possible future of Agni's Philosophy.

So, around June of next year, there will indeed be something different around Agni's Philosophy, which will be presented on perhaps different platforms as those which have been used before. I can not tell you more, I can tell you that it will not turn ONLY PC.
With the expectation of the next gen consoles making an appearance at E3, it is more than likely that Agni's Philosophy will be shown off on said consoles, such as the rumored PS4/Orbis and the Xbox 720. This may be another tech demo on the respective consoles or it could very well mean that Agni's Philosophy is a full fledged SE game. We're hoping for the latter! Either way, the Luminous Engine could be the forefront for the next generation's graphics, putting Square Enix far ahead of its competitors.

Are you excited about a possible new FF related game? Is this FFXV? Isn't it just pretty?

I just watched the video for the first time, despite it being a while.

Yeah, she's definitely using magicite/materia and that thing's definitely an esper/eidolon.

Look at those names at the end of the trailer. I wonder if pretty soon we're going to have a Final Fantasy, or just a AAA RPG made as a collaboration by both the Square Enix guys in Japan and the Eidos people in Europe. I think that could have wonderful results. The Deus Ex director told me the Japanese were the ones who made that incredible trailer for them, I think that would be a logical extension of that.

I would happily play this game, it looks funky. Would be really interested in seeing how it could turn out.

I remember an old tech demo for Crystal Tools which was supposedly nothing, but it looked awfully similar to Limsa Lominsa from XIV. So I wouldn't be surprised if this was a pre-Alpha preview of XV.

EDIT: I re-watched that tech demo. And although it is a city over the water, that's about where the similarity ends. So Pokey's right about tech demos not really materializing into anything.

The setting is amazing so I'd love to see a game of it!

It looks pretty yeah but so did Final Fantasy XIII and XIV. So I don't care how pretty it is. If this is a game it better have the gameplay to back it up.

Also, I wouldn't get excited about this becoming a game. Square's tech demos haven't ever really materialized into anything before...

I hope it is, but I don't think it is.

My understanding of it is it's a tech demo only, but SE asked people if they liked the idea and setting for FFXV.

They once asked people if they would play Agni's Philosophy if it were a game, or something like that. Some Square-Enix survey.

There is no evidence supporting it being an actual game.

      But we can always hope.

I hope it's a new IP and not something they just slap the FF name on to.

      That would be nice.

Meh, I doubt it'll turn into anything. It looks really badass, though I frickin' hated the shakey-cam they used. Made it hard to appreciate all the designs and artwork.
Could be quite an interesting setting though... I'm interesting if anything.

I wonder if it would be akin to PE more than FF.
