A paladin, like he was in his original game. He's a good, all round
character with bucket loads of versatility. You could equip Protect
(LV3) with Cure (LV1), or you could make him more offensive. Either
way, Cecil is best used with a bard like Princess Sarah to really
boost his raw stats. |
Rydia

You can see the developers were trying to make Rydia a magic user
with an emphaisis on Boost, to highlight her summoning connections.
However, summons in this game are already very powerful, and if they
don't One-Hit KO a enemy, their quite close to death anyway. Her magic
stat is quite high, but Vivi and Terra are far superior casters. It's
a shame really. If you do use her, take Mana's Paeon (LV3) and a few
-ra spells, but again, there are better characters. |

Kain is a very standard attacking character, and the set-up I would use
for him would be Strength Up (LV3) and Focus (LV2 & LV3). He's the
fourth strongest character in the game, and with a very high strength
stat and a surprisingly high agility stat, he also can be a very good
leader for FMS in a Dark Note. |

Put simply, the best FMS character in the game. He has insanely high
agility and with Dash (LV3) and Mimic, he will use Dash that will make
him run faster, then mime it, so he will use it again! Great. With
Bartz, you will almost always reach the goal in a FMS. You could also
use Recall; if a character with no magic abilities use recall, they can
use all sorts of crazy abilities, including Shantotto's Ancient Magic. |

A well-rounded character to say the least. She has no real weaknesses
stat wise and can also function as an agility leader; she has Dash
(LV3) and Wind Rhapsody (LV3). Being a pirate, she of course has
all three levels of Steal, and also Libra, so she is a very good
candidate for a steal team for rare item collecting. |

She is a awesome magic user and her myraid of magic skills shows it.
She has all the -ga and -ra spells, together with Trance, her unique
ability which after a 30 chain triples her magic power. This is a huge
boost and one that should definitely be taken. Besides Trance, you can
equip Blizzaga and Thundara, or Mana's Paeon (LV1). The choice is up
to you. |

He has decent stats sans agility which is his strongest suit, however
his abilities make his character. He has Treasure Hunter (LV3) and
Steal (LV3) and so probably be used for this purpose. Any spare
CP can be used to increase his agility, perhaps Dash (LV1) or
Hastemarch (LV1). Locke is also a happy carrier of Libra (LV2) which
similar to Cid allows him to expose two items from Dark Notes! |

Probably the strongest DPSer in the entire game. He has supreme
strength, fairly high HP and a fair amount of agility to boot, and
with the standard set of Strength Up (LV2 & LV3) and Omnislash, he can
hit like a truck. That's really all there is to it. Use him. Love him. |

She is obviously a healer but what isn't so obvious is her surprisingly
high strength of 142. If coupled with a bard her attack can be boosted
further, however she shouldn't be used in this regard as there are
better characters for this. Instead, think of her as a decent agility
leader with Thoroughbred, which allows her to get lightning-quick
white chocobos. She also has Libra (LV1), so you can use her to
discover Dark Note items, while Elegy (Lv3) is for highly defensive
situations, like a deathly hard Dark Note. Overall, Aerith is a very
good character, even if on face value she seems relatively useless! |

Not quite sure he's a hero, but alas, it's quite amusing seeing him
fight alongside Cloud that's for sure. He has almost capped magic
and strength from the get-go, and has quite a diverse range of skills.
I personally went with Thundaga, Focus, Strength Up (LV1) and
Sinewy Etude (LV3) which is a good blend between magic and power.
Definitely experiment with Sephiroth though; he has many possible
avenues to exploit. |

The lack of Strength Up (LV3) means he isn't a viable DPSer, because
Firion, Cloud and Warrior of Light can do it so much better. However,
he does have some saving graces. I like to use Squall's Weapon Break
(LV2) together with Lionheart. Any spare CP can be used on Lance
(LV1), but in general Squall is best used as a defensive option with
some decent strength to back him up. |

He's rather similar to Squall actually. And similarly, I used him in
much the same way. Weapon Break (LV3) together with Lance (LV3) makes
him quite the tank. You could even throw in Strength Up (LV2) as well
to give him extra oomph in his attacks. Overall, I tend to view Seifer
and Squall quite identically; Squall for bosses, Seifer for defense. |

He is very good at both FMS and BMS, and he is a consummate pro at
both. He has Treasure Hunter (LV3) which is great for farming
rare Dark note items, and with Grand Lethal he can also provide some
serious damage as well. If your not going for Dark notes, you can
instead make Zidane super powerful by replacing Treasure Hunter (LV3)
with all three Sinewy Etudes. This increases the power of Grand Lethal
even further. Zidane is my personal favourite leader. |
Vivi

Like Terra, Vivi is a very good magic user and probably equals her.
If you use Vivi, take Dualcast which increases magic power by X2. While
not as powerful as Terra's Trance, her's relies on getting a 30 chain
which might not always be possible in very difficult Dark Notes. This
is where Vivi shines; couple Dualcast with two -ra abilities. Simple,
yet very effective. Do be careful with these two though, as they are
quite fragile. Pair them with a strong character like the WoL to sure
up their defenses. |

He's a jack of all trades, master of none. He is the Kimahri of
Theatrhythm. He has high agility an decent strength, but there are
even better characters for agility (Bartz or Zidane) and strength
(Cloud, Firion etc). It's a shame really, but if you want to use him,
work on his most effective ability, Blitz Ace. Make him an agility
pro with Dash (LV3) and Wind Rhapsody (LV3), and then for BMSs
Blitz Ace can down most bosses with some help from other characters. |

The developers obviously didn't care much for the FFX characters.
Yuna is very much like Rydia; a focus on summoning abilities though
she is more geared as a white mage while Rydia is more offensive. She
has quite a surprisingly high amount of HP with 6187, and while she is
not a character I would use, I can see how she can be effective. Paeon
(LV3) grants constant healing, and Elegy (LV1) can provide a small
but decent defense boost. I wouldn't bother with Boost though, because
summons are already quite powerful anyway. |

Yet another prolific magic user. She has capped magic at 255 but has
very low HP with 3729. Shantotto is best used with Dualcast, which is
a standard magic user skill, that should be used time and time again.
You could also give her Agility Up (LV1) with Ancient Magic and a
-ra spell and make her a boss killer and agility FMS leader. Overall,
she can compete with the best of the magic casters. |

A very unimaginative character really. There's not alot to add. Prishe
is a straightforward damage dealer, but like Squall she doesn't have
Strength Up (LV3) so that hurts her slightly. She does, rather
strangely given her low magic, cure and cura, but I would ignore them.
Instead, focus on her strength. |

He's obviously a very good thief, with both steal and Treasure Hunter
under his belt. While I would go with Zidane as my main thief, you
could go crazy and have all three thiefs in the same party and
get triple steal and triple Treasure Hunter (LV3). Now that's serious
item hunting! I would also throw in Pyroclasm to give Vaan some
more attacking angles to work from, but otherwise, Vaan is good, but
Zidane is better. |
Ashe

She is a magic user clearly. Ashe clearly tries to walk a line between
white mage and black mage, but unfortunately she just falls flat. She
doesn't possess any -ga spells, but then that's not her greatest flaw.
Her biggest flaw is that she is competing against Terra and Vivi and
they are just alot better at her job. It sounds cruel, but it is true.
What Ashe does have however is a fairly sizeable HP stat so she can
take more hits, so there's that. If you want to use Ashe, I would
suggest playing defensive with Elegy (LV3) and Regen (LV3). An all
around defensive option! |

Oh sweet Lightning. I love using Lightning because she is possibly
the most versatile character in the game. She can play offense, bard,
defense, agility... the list goes on. You could go with Hero's Rime
(LV3) and Sinewy Etude (LV3), which caps her strength out and also
benefits the rest of the party, or forget all about Hero's Rime and
take all three Sinewy Etudes with a spell. The choice really is yours;
while I can only suggest one way to build Lightning, many other ways
are possible. Experiment any way you wish! |

Like his original game, Snow is just a tank. He comes with capped HP
with a whopping 9999, and can use Weapon Break (LV3) and Elegy (LV3).
This has the dual purpose of both reducing damage taken, and reducing
damage the enemy dishes out, which is just beautiful. Some may argue
that the Warrior of Light is a better tank, but he has to rely on
getting a 70 chain, which in a tough Dark note is very difficult.
Snow is a much more certain option to be sure. |

She is a bard. She is a unique character. But she is outclassed by
Princess Sarah who makes Cosmos look like a sad goddess. It's a
great tragedy, but Cosmos is fairly useless when you can use Princess
Sarah. What you can do with her is to use Elegy (LV3) and Paeon (LV2)
to act as a defensive wall. Still, if you want a bard, your better off
with Princess Sarah. |
