I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Wedding and let me tell you, it was wonderful. The ceremony took place outside in the flower field by Edea’s orphanage, and the reception went on for hours in Balamb Garden’s great hall. In fact, I suspect they’re still partying now.
Squall and his groomsmen Zell and Irvine were first down the aisle and I was half expecting them to dress in their SeeD uniforms. I was pleasantly surprised when they didn’t and instead wore matching tuxedos.
Wearing different dresses, the two bridesmaids arrived. Quistis dressed in a mid-length, figure hugging dress with a halter neck, and Selphie in a more playful dress with a bustier top and shorter skirt. They were both the same beautiful orange shade which faded through into a sunny yellow colour.
Then Rinoa made her arrival to the aisle wearing a beautiful white dress with thin spaghetti straps. She looked like a bridal dream. I saw pale shades of purple, blue and teal emanating like an aura from the dress too. It was definitely the work of a dressmaker from Fisherman’s Horizon. Once she walked past me, I was able to see the back – the famous wing motif! The entire back of the dress was made up of two large feathered wings lying over the train.
After the vows were said, we made our way inside of Balamb Garden and headed to the hall. It had been set up with a blue colour scheme; the tables had been laid out with little scroll-like favours and blue flowers poking out from delicate glass candlesticks. The tables also featured bouquets of blue flowers, which appeared so small and dainty yet gave off an amazing aroma – the petals of the flowers almost looked like butterflies.
The food included a mixture of many dishes; there were gourmet burgers and hot dogs for a main, and a vast selection of sushi, salads, fruits and pastries for starters. I chose a starter of California Rolls and a Hot Dog topped with cheese, bacon and jalapeños. I was actually lucky to get a Hot Dog, because Zell pretty much cleared them out within half an hour.
The desserts, like the starters and mains, were varied. A wide selection of various cupcakes, tortes, ice creams and sorbets spread out across a long table. I chose a rich chocolate torte topped with raspberries and a vanilla and strawberry cupcake.
The whole event was stylish and simple. A small band of SeeD students played music throughout the reception; and for the couple’s first dance they played ‘Eyes on Me’ (Squall has gotten infinitely better with his two left feet).
The champagne was flowing all day, and the tower of glasses was constantly being refilled. For a while I had slightly too much to drink and ended up having a rather intimate dance with a suited-up Seifer Almasy before coming to my soberer senses and making a dash for it.
All in all, it was a beautiful day and the ceremony was well overdue for this couple. I wish them the very best for their future together as Mr. and Mrs. Leonhart, and from the looks of it, it seems that Selphie and Irvine may be next – they just couldn’t keep their hands off each other!
Reporting on the Final Fantasy wedding of the year, this is Lockharted! Over and out!
