• Tomb Raider 'Endurance Week' Recap!

Last week, the creators of the new Tomb Raider held an 'Endurance Week' to mark the upcoming release date of the heavily anticipated new game. The week consisted of one of the games characters getting their own little bio for fans to check out!

The week of course started with Lara!

"Lara is an unassuming and rather bookish young woman, making her way through life in search of meaning and direction after the disappearance of her parents while on an expedition."

According to the bio, Lara lived a sheltered and privileged life with her parents. Their mysterious disappearance sparked her great interest in adventure. The journey on the Endurance on the search for Yamatai is her first big adventure, even though she has traveled aboard the ship before.

"She possesses a powerful sense of moral (if not physical) courage. Lara is clever, resourceful and determined. When push comes to shove, Lara's loyalty to her friends outweighs her fear for her own safety."

    Conrad Roth and Lara Croft

We have also been treated to small bits of information about the rest of the crew: Captain Conrad Roth, Samantha Noshimura, Joslin Neyes, James Whitman, Jonah Maiava, Alex Weiss and Angus Grimaldi.

Conrad Roth is a 52-year old man who served in the military before putting his specialist skills to good use and becoming a wreck-diver and treasure hunter. Eventually becoming the Captain of the Endurance. He spent years working as Lara's fathers body guard, and so must know Lara very well. He almost seems like another Father figure to her.

"The welfare and safety of his crew is paramount to Roth and he prides himself on instinctively knowing who is going to make a good crew-member."

(L to R: Samantha, Conrad and Joslin)

"22-year-old Samantha Nishimura is a documentary producer on board the Endurance. Growing up she moved a lot, not just down the street, but between continents. Despite her rebellious streak, Samantha has extremely expensive taste in clothes. Sam really can't understand why Lara refuses to touch her fortune, and sometimes ribs her about it, but she doesn't let it get in the way of their friendship."

I wonder if this Samantha may always be Lara's friend. A rebellious nature may suggest that Samantha could turn against Lara later in the narrative, she is of similar age to Lara and it would be a great twist to see her turn rogue!

Joslin Reyes is a 42-year old ex-cop from Queens, New York, now working as a mechanic on board the Endurance. Said to be fiercely loyal and someone you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of, Joslin appears to be a motherly character which makes sense as she has a young daughter back home, and her goal is to get back to her as soon as possible after the adventure.
"One day she'd like to make enough money to open her own garage and spend more time with her daughter. Because of Alisha, Reyes won't sacrifice herself for anyone, but will still put herself in danger for people when her cop training kicks in. "

Jonah Maiava is the ship's chef and handyman.

"Jonah was born in New Zealand, but raised in Hawaii by his maternal grandmother. As a young man, he traveled back to his home country to serve in the army."

He is said to be very strong and able. His job on the Endurance came about after he impressed Roth with his culinary skills.

(L to R: Angus, Alex and James)

Dr. James Whitman is a documentary film maker, who started out studying in Archaeology and Antropology.

"Dr. Whitman has had a bit of a run of bad fortune and only recently emerged from a messy divorce. His TV series is also in danger of not being renewed unless he finds some new and exciting angle; a problem that he's not keen to share with the rest of the crew."

Alex Weiss is the ship's techy. Skilled in hacking and electronics, he is an asset to the ship and has skills the other members of the crew do not. Jusging by his age and appearance, I do wonder if he could be a potential love interest for Lara - even though it is highly unusual for the series to give her a love interest...

"Alex is a bit of a joker, and although he's quite witty, he can be pretty crass. He also has a charming side and is more sensitive than he likes to let on. Alex has a fascination with conspiracy theories, alien abduction stories, and urban legends of all sorts."

And finally, Angus Grimaldi! He's pretty scary looking but there is nobody else on the Endurance that Roth would trust more with his ship. This may be due to the past the pair have.

"There's nothing about sailing and water that Grim doesn't know, and he has sailed all the oceans of the world, which included stints working for the Merchant Navy where he met Roth. Roth and Grim found a kinship and stuck together after their service. They traveled the world and took any job that paid well, all of them dangerous and most of them legal."

So, what do you think of these characters from their small bio? Do you think there will be any surprises in there? Do you think anyone will die?
