• Final Fantasy XIV Letter from the Producer XLIV

The beta for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has now been out for a couple of weeks, and the lovable producer Naoki Yoshida has released his forty-fourth Letter from the Producer to give us some new info.

First, Yoshi-P apologizes to the beta testers for sever congestion problems. FFXIV apparently now has 100,000 testers, and there have been server load issues that needed fixing, and are still being adjusted. Is it just me, or does 100,000 sound like a lot? And this is just phase 1!

Phase 2 of the beta will begin in early April, and even more testers will be added then. So far, the beta appears to be fairly on schedule with the beta roadmap. Right before the transition, Yoshi-P will host another Live Letter. The biggest change will be that the gamepad will be useable in phase 2, and most of the phase will be devoted to making necessary gamepad adjustments. Lots of new content should not be expected during phase 2.

But new content will come in future phases. Guildhests (behests from 1.0) will be available in phase 3, and have been adjusted to be playable at lower levels. Guildhests are supposed to be a fun way to group together for more casual play, even at lower levels when most dungeons are off limits. Yoshi-P added some screenshots of a party in the beta attempting a guildhest (Japanese version):

Hopefully all you beta testers out there are having fun working tirelessly to improve the game! We’ll keep you updated on any further news as phase 2 nears.
