• Cosplay - An Interview with Geb_Geb

You asked for it and you've got it! This edition we sit down with the lovely Geb_Geb who you voted to be your favouritist of favourites of all the Yuna cosplays that were featured in the last edition. If you ever wanted to know what a cosplayers friends and family think of the hobby or if there are any downsides to cosplaying then read on!

As a little bit of a lead in: to say that Geb_Geb was ecstatic when I first told that she'd been voted as EoFF's favourite Yuna would be an understatement. Her first reply was:

"Omg thank you O.O it make me so happy!!! I'm so happy people like my Yuna ^^"

Now with that said let's get down to the nitty-gritty!

    Q. How did you get into Cosplay?
Because of Final Fantasy actually! I always found a ''myself'' in those games (like Garnet, Yuna, Rinoa, Tifa...) and I use to ghetto cosplay them with any similar parts of clothes I could find lol. Then I decided to take sewing classes to be able to made their outfit properly, my first cosplay was Garnet's princess gown.

    Q. What's the most fun part of Cosplay for you?
Wearing the costume, be the character you like so much (not acting, just being able to look like them is wonderful to me). Making the costume is very fun too but sometimes very stressful.

    Q. Are there any downsides to Cosplaying?
AH! This question....I wanted to drop cosplay SO MANY TIMES. The main reason is the popularity contest it has become with the facebook fanpages and all... cosplay is just everywere and it look like a lot of people forgot how fun it was at the begining. When I started cosplaying I did not have super cool photography of my cosplay, did not even had wig to wear with them! But it was fun, we were just having fun with friends, not caring about if we were "zomg 100% accurate." I really miss those times... really I hate the popularity contest cosplay has become But still I love doing it for myself and my love to the characters I cosplay.

    Q. What do your friends and family think of Cosplaying - are they supportive of it?
Honestly they were really supportive of it until I developped an eating disorder....I'm really obsessed with my weight because of cosplay (I'm not really healthy anymore and it kinda make life very very hard, with friends, family and boyfriend). That's sad because it's such a creative hobby! They're really proud of what I make, but now they think I should let go of it for a while for my own health. A lot of girls cosplayers I know got the same problem...this is really sad

    Q. What made you decide to Cosplay as Yuna?
I always wanted to cosplay her since I started! I love her so much, Final Fantasy X is one of my favorite games ever. I cried at the end :P She's such a pretty and elegant woman, I really wanted to be like her. Her outfit is gorgeous too! I hesitated a lot to cosplay her because so many people did...and I don't think I look like her at all! But it the end it was worth it

    Q. What's your favourite thing about Yuna as a character?
She's a really strong woman! A lot of people found her annoying but she's just so sweet, real, honest, loyal and lets say it kind of naive :P I love that through the game you realize how much strong she is! On the other hand....I don't really like what they did to her in X-2!

    Q. Roughly how much did the costume cost and how long did it take?
Ugh....maybe around 400-500$, it always costs me that much for a cosplay. It took me about 3 months!

    Q. What was the most challenging part of the costume?
The embroidery on the skirt, it's not that challenging but it's very long and it need a lot of concentration which I have difficulty with :P

    Q. What part of the costume was the most enjoying to make?
The jewelry and the Nirvana staff! I love making cosplay parts that are not sewing, and it was my first time making a staff like that!

    Q. If you could go back and change anything about the costume - would you? Or are you happy with it?
To me it's perfect. There's nothing I wanted to change about it except maybe the fact that my pink gradient doesn't show well in pictures....it's sad because it's the perfect shade of pink in real life! I don't want it to be darker.

    Q. Have you Cosplayed as any other Final Fantasy characters? If so, which one was your favourite?
Celes and Garnet of course! She's my favorite character ever! It's also my favorite cosplay because I got SO MUCH feedback about it. So many people told me I look exactly like her and that I was the best Garnet ever, it's one of the best feelings in the world I even got interviewed and feature on gameinformer : http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2012/03/22/cosblog-71.aspx

    Q. Which Final Fantasy is your favourite?
Final Fantasy IX, but I have a strong love for all of them! Except XIII and the MMORPG ones.

    Q. If you had the time and resources to cosplay as absolutely any character, regardless of how long it'd take or how awkward the costume would be to make - which character would it be?
Wow....it's hard to answer XD I think I'll answer with Lenneth from Valkyrie Profile and Shana from Legend of Dragoon (especially Shana because of her wings....don't know how to make that). They are character with armor and I would love to have the ressources and money to make them out of fiberglass like professionals armor suits.

    Q. Do you admire any other members of the cosplay community - is there anyone you look up too?
Jessie Pridemore hands down! I just love her, she's so dedicated to the community, she makes wonderful tutorials and I love all of her costumes. I wish I could be as productive at cosplay making and involved in the community as her! She's so pretty too. Everybody should check her DA http://rufflebuttcosplay.deviantart.com/

    Q. What advice would you give to anyone looking to get into Cosplay?
Never ever ever forget to have fun! Be happy with what you make, who care's if it's not 100% accurate or if you don't have the right shape or face, as long as you are happy wearing it There's no rules to cosplay! It's a wonderful hobby and it should never fall into a competition.

    Q. Which do you prefer - Nutella or Peanut Butter?
Ahahahah I'm actually recongnized among my friends to be a Peanut butter freak. I LOVE it way too much...it's my breakfast every morning lol! But I do miss Nutella... one day I suppose I'll be able to eat some again...with waffles <3

    Q. Do you have any words you'd like to say to the members of EoFF for voting you as their favourite Yuna?
THANK YOU SO MUCH! After doing Garnet I had an hard time trying to make another character because I was identified to Garnet. I thought I could never look like another character. I really didn't think I looked like Yuna but I did it anyway....and the fact that you voted as me makes me so incredibly happy! Seriously thank you It really makes me want to continue cosplay

Thanks for joining us Geb_Geb. Be sure to check out her gallery over at Cosplay.com as well as her Facebook Fan Page!

Remember, if you've found a Final Fantasy or Square Enix related Cosplay you think should be featured in a future edition then be sure to drop me a Mognet Message.

To give you another clue for the next edition - think boyband haircuts and facial scars and lots of leather!

I really enjoyed that interview! She was so bubbly and happy. It was also very informative: I didn't know that many cosplayers succumbed to eating disorders. Interesting.

      Loved it

I think she looks more like Yuna than Garnet! And her Celes picture was probably my favourite. It's gorgeous.

I can definitely see her playing Shana from Legend of Dragoon, though.
