• Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Coming to the PS4 – #E32013

After months of speculation and Square-Enix refusing to confirm anything, at E3 it was finally confirmed that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be coming to the Playstation 4.

For all of you PS3 owners: do not cancel your FFXIV preorders. The PS4 version will not be released until sometime in 2014. With A Realm Reborn being released for the PC and PS3 on August 27, 2013, that’s a long way to wait. And Yoshi-P has assured fans that any character data on the PS3 version will be freely transferable to the PS4 version, once it’s released. So players should go ahead and buy the PS3 version of FFXIV when it’s released, if that is what they want to do.

It’s also not clear yet exactly what benefits the PS4 version might have. Presumably better graphics, but there’s currently no word on a PS4 Collector’s Edition or any other perks. But considering Sony’s other explosive announcements that seem to make the PS4 the console to beat for the next generation, an updated FFXIV only makes the console that much more attractive.

So that'll be three different collector's editions I'll buy at this rate. xD Oh boy. Maybe I'll give this one a miss.

      ...maybe.

Either way I'll still be getting the PS3 version. After having XIV delayed initially and nonexistent on PS3, id rather just stick with the sure thing and play from the get go and not be late to the party.

I know he said something like "There's no disadvantage in buying the PS3 version now and switching to PS4 later," but is that really confirming that you won't have to buy a new PS4 version? Can you provide a source for the confirmation? Thanks.

My PC is probably somewhere halfway between PS3 and PS4 in terms of power. I'm thinking of getting the game on PC just because I can run it at a slightly better quality than PS3 and get 60fps, which beats the (sometimes) laggy framerate on PS3 by a long shot. I'm sure PS4 won't have any of those problems, but is it worth the wait? Probably not.
