• Kingdom Hearts III - Nomura reveals a few more details - #E32013

In the latest Famitsu magazine Nomura revealed a few more exciting details about the hotly anticipated Kingdom Hearts III. Nomura revealed that they're using a brand new shader engine custom built for Kingdom Hearts III called the "Kingdom Shader." The shaders can be changed on a per world basis to make the textures, borders and other visual elements look and feel more like the source material they're based on. They're really aiming for a high level of authenticity to the Disney source material.

As detailed in other interviews he went on to mention that Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV are both being developed on the DirectX 11 based "Luminous Engine" which makes porting the game between platforms easy. Right now only XBOX One and PlayStation 4 have been confirmed but it is possible that it may pop-up on other suitable hardware (PC).

He then went on to discuss the reveal trailer at E3. This was actually pre-rendered footage and not something captured in-game. He said the development team have been having trouble outputting the game on the actual systems right now where it's so early in production but he assures readers that the game does actually run and the finished product should look like the footage we've seen.

When asked about what big things to expect in Kingdom Hearts III he made a point of saying that there would "insane crazy scale-action," crazy aerial-action and much better enemy-AI than before. The AI will be able to interact with the player in new ways with things like vehicle riding enemies that Sora can take control of. The three character party system will return but NPC and allies in each world will also join in on the action and they won't always be replacing someone in the party.

As mentioned in our coverage of Square Enix Presents - Nomura reiterated that they are looking at online capabilities that could be included in Kingdom Hearts III along with other features new to the franchise. He wouldn't clarify when pressed for more details.

Nomura concluded that Kingdom Hearts III is seen as a competing production to Final Fantasy XV and there is a friendly rivalry between the two teams at present. He went on to say that it'd be nice if they could reveal more Kingdom Hearts III information around the time of the D23 Expo in Japan in October along with the Tokyo Game Show. Though he made no guarantees!

The fact that this is prerendered is disappointing, but not entirely unexpected. I am interested in what "insane crazy scale-action" means!
