• FFXV has a new weapon switching system

Tabata has announced on the official Final Fantasy XV forums that the game will feature a new weapon switching system. Previously you would hold down the attack button and Noctis would cycle through various weapons automatically, according to the order in which weapons were set pre-battle. That is no longer the case.

Rather than having Noctis do this automatically, players now have the chance to switch weapons themselves in real time by using the d-pad. This gives the player more freedom and choice in regards to which weapons they'd like to use and the combos that can be created.

How do you feel about this change? Did you like the old system? Do you like the idea of more freedom? WILL THIS GAME RELEASE IN 2016?

It's going to take a very specific battle type for me to make a decision on whether FFXV's battle mechanics are anything other than hack n' slash. I knew from the opening moments of KH that I loved the battle system because there were one on one battles where your sword would clash with an enemy's which gave some strategy to the system. This was expanded upon when you got dodge roll, guard and some of the special attacks. For the most part 3rd person ARPG's are mash button to win (or hold down button in this game's case), but if there are moments that make me think about how I approach a battle or are better served by using all of my defensive capabilities then I'll be happy.

Of course, none of that will matter if they don't fix the stupid smurfing camera.

The change sounds good but I don't know how much it would affect me. I like freedom to vary my attacks but I'd much prefer a preset macro like system than one that forces you to determine and then input the correct combo choice in real time.

I think that this could change things up quite a bit. In Duscae you use left and right on the d-pad to cycle through techniques. Now that can't be the case because it's used for the weapon cycling. So I'm assuming now that if you want to use a technique you will have to have the right weapon equipped. So if you want to use the absorb ability you will have to have the short sword equipped. If you want to use the AOE sweep attack then you will have to have a long weapon equipped. This may not be the case and we will have to wait for more clarification but if it does happen to be true then it would make things a bit more interesting.

Just one more tiny tweak and i'll be cool with it. Just put the good guys on the right side and the bad guys on the left side and make it turn-based. Perfect.

      MAKE THIS AN OPTION.

I'm only 5% trolling. I'm too old to win an RPG with my "reflexes" amd "skills". I don't want Final Fantasy DMC. I don't wanna Kratos my way through an FF game. i want to take my time and strategize. ;_; Menu-drilling ftw.

That's what I'm coming to terms with myself.

After my experience with the demo, I think this is a good thing. It's how I expected it to work after the old E3 gameplay demos, which then turned out to be wrong when Episode Duscae came along. Assuming everything else is pretty much the same, I expect this to be a very good decision.

You know... I swear I've heard of those things...

Not to sound like a broken record.... but while I appreciate SE's continued efforts to innovate, I'd really enjoy something a little more menu based.

Time to get over the fact that FFXV isn't turn based, people

This is an ideal solution for Action RPGs and Action games overall. :3
I hope that weapons can be assigned to D-Pad (or something like that)... XD
