• Final Fantasy VI MAY be coming to Steam

While no official announcement has been made on the part of Square Enix, according to gamerant and numerous other sources, PEGI has rated the game for a PC release. No specific date has been given yet, and we don't even know which version of FFVI this will be, but it's safe to assume that the game will be released in a similar fashion to FFV, which was a port of the iOS/Android version.

The mobile version of Final Fantasy VI featured enhanced graphics, including spritework by series veteran Kazuko Shibuya who was responsible for the sprites in the original six games. On top of that, the game featured the revamped script from the GBA version, as well as the additional espers and dungeons from that port. Whether the Steam version will feature the same interface featured in the mobile version which was specifically tailored to accomodate the touchscreen remains unknown.

Are you excited for Final Fantasy VI on PC? Will you be getting it? Or maybe you're eager to see someone on EoFF do a Let's Play? Let us know in the comments!

Yeah, those sprites still look like trout. Perhaps if they fix those first I will be excited.

      1. Those are not screenshots of the PC version, since that version doesn't even have those distributed.\

      2. That moment when everyone and their mother is hating on the sprites made by the creator of the original sprites who can make them more true to her vision now with better hardware

Nostalgia is a cruel mistress Fynn.

I'm with NeoCracker on this one. While the sprites have more detail, the color scheme combined with some of the more cartoony features make them less than appealing visually. Sometimes, less is more.

      To each their own

I just respect that Kazuko Shibuya returned to make these sprites and try to appreciate them for what they are, which is what she originally intended.

She just had a trout vision and made them good by mistake then.

Fynn. Fynn. Fynn. Fynn. This is a battle you cannot win.

      Trust me.

They did fix that whole issue of not being able to finish the game, right? Right?

The spirtes are cartoony, but @ least they're faithful to the original. It's a shame what they've done to poor Bartz in the modern games.

I think its just that the sprites clash with the overworld, In battle they look ok though (not great just ok). It's probably because the world backgrounds are crisp with sharp lines where as the sprites are all blobby which messes with how we usually see perspective, if it were the other way around or they matched it wouldnt be as offputting

I also feel their heads are way too big for their bodies. They had big heads in the original but the general width of the body made up for it.

They're dumb because they don't seem to have any additional detail over the previous sprites, just cleaner lines.

That's why they work, unlike the PSP IV ones that went into too much detail making them look like something out of a Korean FTP MMO.

they have just the right amount of details, wrongman. why pay for something when i can get the same result by running the snes game through an upscaler?

No, they don't. They look like potatoes.
