• Modes updated for FFIX on Steam

Final Fantasy IX is coming to PC and Smartphones, if you didn't know already. This is the last game from the PSone era to get ported to new platforms. They just updated their official site to include a small bit of information about the new modes.

The three modes shown are Master Abilities, Lv/Magic Stone Max, and Gil Max. It also details that these modes cannot be changed after they are selected. It can be inferred that this would allow you to have all abilities unlocked, all level stones maxed out, or all gil maxed out from the very beginning of the game. With what we know from the steam page, these abilities combined with the two already listed, high speed and no encounter modes, we now know of five of the reported seven modes we'll have access to.

What are your thoughts on these new modes? What do you think the last two will be?

idk. makes me think people will go "oh ffix is easy and unlosable" basicly pretending they beat the game but they use these modes.

      i wont use em.

Those three sound more like cheats than game modes. There was also a stream for the mobile version earlier today.

Not really modes as much as just official cheats.

The game looks beautiful ;though this is just so stupid ? What's the point of even playing ?

Yeah really. I'd rather they just implemented something like a difficulty slider, where easy would give you 200% exp gain and hard would only give you 50% exp gain. That should be sufficient to let people who just want to experience the story get through it easily.

They could have the same for encounter rates. 0% 50% 100% 200%.

Luckily, you don't have to use these. If they just up and changed it and you had to use these, i'd be upset. But if you just want replay for the story, i guess, then these are fine.

yeah, I can see these as having a purpose if someone wants to replay the game and just blaze through it

I'd prefer something like what Mirage mentioned, to give it a bit more nuance, but I'm glad they put something like this in at all. Nice to have for a nostalgia playthrough.
