• Airships, Cactuars, Story Length, and More Discussed for Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV director, Hajime Tabata shared some new information with us recently at a NicoNico Livestream by Famitsu. They talked about many new details about the game and some of the things we can expect soon. Check out the details!

    • Cactuars will make an appearance. They’re powerful opponents that will be able to dodge Shift Breaks.
    • Square Enix will have plenty of surprises for their event on March 31st, and to expect a trailer in Japanese as well.
    • The father of Final Fantasy in Hironobu Sakaguchi called out Tabata saying “Let me tell you my impression on the Final Fantasy XV demo.” While Tabata can’t say what they talked about, he mentions with a laugh that Sakaguchi had a whole lot to say.
    • A playable tech demo will be properly shown at the event.
    • As for the play time, at first Square Enix estimated that it would take about 40 hours to clear the main scenario, but this has since then been bumped up to 50 hours. They’re currently not at the final stages of balancing out the game, but making optimal balances. They say that the game has more volume than they thought it would.
    • As for the Airship, it has been decided from long ago on how they would introduce it into the game. It’s something that would have you say “this is the kind of Airship that should be in Final Fantasy XV.”
    • Maintaining a frame rate of 30fps is their objective. This has not been completely optimized as of yet, as there are times where it breaks 30. They will continue making adjustments until the last minute before the game goes gold. If they’re unable to fixate on the 30fps, they will do something different.
    • As for the game’s resolution, it’ll be revealed at the release event on March 31st.
    • As for a PS4 bundle version, Square Enix is working on making it happen.

Big thanks to Siliconera translating gamestalk.net's recap of the event. What are you thoughts on this new info? Are you excited to have Cactuars confirmed? Do you think 50 hours is a good time frame for the story? Thoughts!

I just think these news were okay. I'm hyped for the game anyway, and now I just want to know when it comes out.

Sounds like they are polishing it up at this point. If the story is good, 50 hours is fine. Hopefully it is good considering the amount of time they spent on it!

Some interesting news to say the least. Kind of getting excited for the reveal on the 31st.

Fifty hours I think is about 10 hours longer than the games usually are, but it doesn't matter much. It usually takes me a month to beat a Final Fantasy game and it sounds the same for this. I'm interested in seeing how cactuars will be integrated, Sakaguchi's thoughts, and about airships, which I thought were going to be DLC only.

I have been waiting for Square Enix to talk about that PS4 Bundle for so long, I am so happy they are working on it with Sony!

Although the play time is always a bit of disappointment to me. I have always hated finishing the main story in the FF games as I immerse myself so much into it.
Always wished it lasted 5 times longer.

Did they push it back by a day? I thought it was happening on March 30th?

It's nice to hear confirmation that it will in fact be a length comparable to the other mainseries games. I've been worried for awhile that it might be kind of short.

I thought it was the 30th as well. Be it the 30th or 31st...

      HYYYPPEEEEEEE.

In the US, yes, it's the 30th. Japan is 13-16 hours ahead of the US, so it'll be March 31 there.

Super stoked to hear about the duration! That was one of my biggest concerns with the game.

As games have gotten prettier and more expensive to make with the jump to HD, I feel they've gotten shorter and shorter (some pad it out with side quests but the main scenario's are definitely shorter) Was concerned this might of been the case with FFXV.

It's cool airships are back but I'm expecting it to just be a menu thing like FFX. I wouldn't expect to be piloting them like in something like GTA V.

Good to hear Cactuar's back, the enemy designs in XV are some of my favourite in an FF game. I love how many classic's they are bringing back for the HD treatment.
