In the UK it will be 2am, and I start work at 9am! As much as I'd love to stay up and watch it, I will be knackered for my shift! I'll have to catch up with the news in my lunch break, or when I get home. I'm really looking forward to it, and I don't understand why this thread isn't getting more attention!

      "Hi.
It's Hajime Tabata, director of FFXV.
Thank you very much to all FF fans from Germany, Austria and Switzerland for your continous support.
Last year I've been in Germany for the very first time to visit Gamescom and I was very impressed by the passion of German FF fans.
Also there is something I want to tell those passionate fans today.
It has been decided that FFXV will get, additionally to the English and Japanese voices,
a complete German dub and text.
We are glad that the German dub is gonna help the players to experience the depth of the story and the players even more direct.
Right now we are working on the localisation together with our partners and assure invest great effort in getting sure the German version is going to be as good as possible.
In the end I want to tell you about a special event occuring on March 30th: Uncovered Final Fantasy XV. It is gonna be shown on RocketBeansTV (twich channel btw) with German comment and reveal numerous infos about the game. So please come and watch.
      Please continue supporting FFXV.
      Thank you!"

I did not directly translate some words because they would sound weird in English so I just wrote stuff like "come and watch" for "schaltet ein und seht es euch an" which would be like "turn it on (the channel) and watch".

Someone snapped this picture out front the Shrine Auditorium today.

Do you suppose they're the game's summon monsters? I'm assuming the big blue snake thing is Leviathan. Oh man, I think I see Odin too up there in the right corner!

I don't know. I smell the return of Sefffirottttttt in the FFVII Remake. And if I hate something in Final Fantasy, it is Sephiroth mispronounced "just because that is the Hebrew pronounciation", as some might say. Congratulations. It is not the character name's pronounciation though.

I doubt it, tbh. Especially since Sephirot is this guy in the FF world as of just recently

You have never heard the German voice actors of KH and AC pronounce Sephiroth wrong, I guess.

Pronunciation isn't the same as spelling?

Exactly. But we are well aware of it. Or at least some people. Kingdom Hearts vas pronounced Aerith the English way and not Aeritttt but Sephiroth as Sefffirrrrottt and no, the Hebrew version is no excuse, as he is pronounced as Sefirosu and not as Sefirotto, therefore the English one is the way to go for the character.

So you think Sefiros would have been better?

No, the English version. We CAN pronounce an English th. Do you think we are not capable of English pronounciation? Japan's "Sefirosu" is supposed to stand for the English th pronounciation in case of this character and not the "s" a "su" can stand for.

But forget the "no". Sephiros pronounciation would still have been better, I guess.

As someone who taught English to people who don't have the th sound in their native language, I can tell you with 100% certainty that just because you can pronounce it easily, doesn't change the fact that a new sound is incredibly hard to emulate without years of practice. And if you're looking for a good voice actor for a character, you're gonna look for one that works the best rather the one that can pronounce the th sound the best.

And I assure you we learn the "th" the first year we get taught English in school. For course not everyone can master it, that is clear, there are even people who say "ze" for "the" but the point is, it is in general not hard for us to adapt it. And I can assure you out voice actors are very talented and do their job for a long time now. Sephiroth's voice actor, Simon Jäger, is a very talented, one of the in my opinion best voice actors in Germany, yet he pronounces Sephiroth as Sephirottt. The reason is not those people not being able to pronounce an English th, I can assure you that much. They saw an existing word and that it normally is pronounced Sefirot but not that for this individual case Sefirot is marked to be meant with what you know as the "th" sound, reflected through the "su" katakana in Japanese.

It still sounds off if you casually insert a foreign sound in an utterance.

Maybe for what you imagine. I do it for 20 years and am used to it. I can assure you, in my life I also only heard one German person say "Ah-errrittt".
