• Final Fantasy VII Remake will feature Full Game Episodes

According to the latest issue of Game Informer, the remake of Final Fantasy VII won't only be released in episodic form, but each one will be the size of a full game, comparable in size to each Final Fantasy XIII game. According to producer Yoshinori Kitase, "It will essentially be a full scale game for each part of the multi-part series. In XIII, each installment told the story from a different angle. It was kind of like approaching an unknown territory in a sense. Whereas with Final Fantasy VII Remake, we already have a preexisting story, so it wouldn't really make sense if that isn't encompassed in a multi-part series... So if we're just looking at each of these parts, one part should be on par with the scale of one Final Fantasy XIII game."

He also mentioned that the story would be modernized, "I, along with [Tetsuya] Nomura-san and [Kazushige] Nojima-san--who are involved with the remake--were also involved with the original Final Fantasy," Kitase said. "We were the people who created it, so in that sense, we don't think anything is untouchable. That isn't to say we're changing everything!"

Square Enix has still yet to announce a release date. It's likely that the game, which is set for release on the Playstation 4, won't see the light of day until well after Final Fantasy XV's September 30th release.

Here's the trailer that was released in December:

How would that not make sense?

Full game as in, you start from level 1 each time? Or are you playing the whole story each time but from a different perspective? Or is it encompassing Crisis Core and Advent Children, so Episode 1 = CC, Episode 2 = FFVII, Episode 3 = AC? That is the only parallel FFVII has with XIII. The main FFVII game in no way is similar to how the stories unfold in XIII, XIII-2 and LR.

      Kitase is making no sense.
I don't think you "start over" w/ your level. I imagine they might add from the movies/other games. Some parts might be longer as well, such as dungeons or sidequests.

If they're doing this, I imagine they've got a lot to work w/ to make it happen. I doubt they're going to do senseless filler just to get people to buy three games. They could make more if they released it in smaller episodes & spread it out if that were the case.

I was so hyped for this game when it was first announced, but it's like they're trying to put me off it with every single announcement.

Seriously, all they need to do now is announce that there will be elements of the compilation in the game to make me lose complete interest.

They said they're "modernizing" the story. I think that pretty much guarantees that we're getting Compilation elements.

      Personally, I've already lost interest.

The main issue for me is no involvement from either Sakaguchi or Uematsu. Those guys ARE Final Fantasy to me - and Uematsu himself has said that they should have ended the series when Sakaguchi left. I feel like 12 was still interesting (though very different) but 13 really lost me (haven't played the sequels or even completed the first). Uematsu not overseeing the remixed/arranged music is pretty huge. I am unsure about possibly purchasing this remake eventually - but no way for 15.

Pretty much. It also let's them all you an unfinished game in pieces that may or may not ever pay off.

But this is par for the course with them lately. Square is splitting up all sorts of games into episodic content whether it makes sense or not. I don't even mind when smaller developers release episodic content, but square isn't a small company. They're a big company trying to latch onto a trend so they can sell unfinished content and milk fans for more money.

Jim Sterling recently did a video about SE specifically chopping all their content up into pieces. I will see if I can find it!

I wonder if they're going to let Tifa keep her D cup or shrink them down to an A.

Nah Mercer. Standard SE procedure is to go from B to C, because "it makes clothing fit better".

neither, most likely... she was never as big as many people exaggerate her to be... judging by her character art, the way she appears in AC and the rest of the compilation seems to fit her character design better... i think many people got the impression that she was massively huge from that last scene where she falls on the Highwind and they tried to animate some "physics" into the scene... but that scene is misleading overall due to graphic limitations, with the compilation entries they got it more true to her original design with better technology... they'll most likely stick to her size as she appears in AC & DoC...

I'm not overly excited about this remake. Everything Square has ever done with the VII franchise, minus the original game on PSOne, has sucked and sucked hard. I'll be on the fence until Square shows me otherwise. Now, that's not to say I won't buy it. I'm just not confident that it will be good.

How does everyone think they'll break it down into episodes?

My guess would be that the first episode will be up until you leave Junon. Good length and good point to break it off in terms of the map data needed.
