• 50 minutes of the mastered version of FFXV

Final Fantasy XV showed us some footage of the mastered version of Final Fantasy XV. While the game has been delayed, this should help give us some ideas about what to expect in the final product.

What do you think of what you see? Looking forward to it? What features are looking good to you?

A big thanks again to Noctis Caelum!

I'm gonna watch while I cry and think about what could have been.

Plenty of things I like, plenty of things to criticise! What I will say is this: none of my criticisms so far are particularly major.

      - I wonder what the gameplay loop is gonna be later in the game. All the best FF games shift away from their initial conceit at some point, will FFXV do the same so that it's not just "Road trip with the lads" for the whole way? I hope so.
      - The writing and animations. Much improved since XIII, but X and XII could still teach this game a thing or to. It's all just a bit hammy and forced.
      - KILL X SOMETHINGS. <- This is not good quest design.

I really enjoyed the variety of battle music. The whole go to a tomb -> get weapon -> repeat seems like it could get old quick, though. It reminded me of inFamous where you had to go in to a sewer all the time to get a conduit or something, and I didn't like that. I'm liking the Astrosphere system though and the magic upgrading seems pretty interesting. What I'm worried about most is story pacing, but only time will tell how that plays out. All in all it's looking good.

I am so hyped. There's stuff that needs to be fixed, from the looms of it, but oh man!

And you can change what they are wearing! Gladio in a tank with his tattoo sleeves? smurf yeah!

The world itself does look pretty amazing, I have to admit.

I watched the whole thing and the only things that really look bad to me are that horribly pixelated restaurant menu and the unforgivably unstable framerate, and the crazy amount of texture pop-in, and moments where it looks like the textures on the mountains and foliage never load at all. In fact it just feels like there's an overall lack of polish on everything I've seeing, which is particularly disconcerting to see on the next big entry in the Final Fantasy main series, a series known for its overall polish and visual prowess. I can completely understand now why they needed the two month delay, and after watching the video and seeing the aforementioned problems, I'm glad they decided on pushing the release date further.

But aside of that, I'm loving everything else. The banter between the four friends is great, and it sounds very natural. Battles look fun, very much improved since Episode Duscae. The soundtrack is freaking beautiful, and so far the characters I saw for more than a few seconds all seemed pretty likable. The upgrade/growth system looks pretty interesting, and I love the idea that you can have Cid mod your weapons. Also, CHOCOBO RACING IS BACK! Yay!

I'm crossing my fingers that November 29th turns out to be the real deal.

So far so good. You can tell that they spent a lot of time on this.

Changing clothing is always a boon for me. I don't know, maybe I just like dress-up.

Honestly the technical issues (like Mirage stated) are the single biggest issue still plaguing this game. Hopefully the extra two months will resolve those issues. Otherwise, the repetitive side-quests problem crops up in almost every RPG ever, so it's more of a flaw of the genre. Hopefully there's some variation. I mean, this looks like it is going to be a large game, so there's going to be some good ones, I'm sure.

I for one don't mind the "kill X monsters" format at all. It worked really great in Xenoblade, adding incentive to go out and explore, because some of them were in secluded places and really, exposing yourself to the wildlife of the environment is just as big a part of exploration as walking around, imo

If they're treated like minor, repeatable missions you can do cash/weapons/items etc. then I'm game. It's just if these 'kill X monsters' or 'find X item' are presented like serious side-quests that I start to get a tad tired. They're fine as long as they don't replace unique, original side-quests.

To be fair the first "Kill X Monsters" mission was used to introduce battle mechanics. Each spawn point introduced different mechanics. Plus it is safe to assume that any "Hunt" of any kind will be the same format. So probably, well hopefully, limited to that.
