• NieR: Automata Is Coming to Steam

Announced earlier today on IGN's Gamescon stream, Nier: Automata is coming to PC via Steam. While published by Square Enix this action oriented title is being developed by Platinum Games, makers of Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The team also consists of producer Yosuke Saito (DRAGON QUEST® X / NIER), director YOKO TARO (Drakengard® / NIER ), character designer Akihiko Yoshida from CyDesignation, Inc. (FINAL FANTASY® XIV / BRAVELY DEFAULT®), game designer Takahisa Taura from PlatinumGames Inc. (Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance), and composer Keiichi Okabe from MONACA, Inc. (TEKKEN / Drakengard 3 / NIER ).

During E3, an impressive video of a boss battle was shown exhibiting the fast paced action and the enemy design. Nier: Automata will also be coming to PlayStation 4 and is scheduled to release in 2017.

I am kind of excited for this but also not because Nier was not a good game.

Yeah, I didn't like Nier very much at all. It just seemed like a muddled, ugly, inane mess of a game with a lousy battle system, drab uninspired visuals, and nonsensical one-note characters stuck in a incoherent string of scenarios that serve as a stand in for an actual story. I played all the way through the game, and remember pretty much all of it, yet I can not for the life of me tell you what it's about, and I dare someone else to.

That being said, it's one of the finest examples of a "cult game" I can think of. It has a loyal cult following who thinks it's absolutely brilliant.

But honestly Automata is a completely different kind of game. It looks like it's going to play a lot like Metal Gear Rising and Bayonetta, two games I very much enjoyed. I just can't figure out why of all games to ask Platinum to make a sequel to, Nier was chosen.

the only thing i didn't like about Nier was that here in the U.S. we got the stupid XBox version on our Playstations... when they first announced it i was excited, i loved Brother Niers design, then it released and i saw Father Nier, ugh... i hope they don't go changing things on us again this time before Automata releases, and give us some bruiser dude because "Americans wouldn't believe a girl could carry big swords"...

Those two remind me of the twins from Drakengard and from what I understand Nier takes place in a parallel word or whatever. I hope they are the same two or something dope like that.

indeed Nier takes place following Ending E of Drakengard... set in an Alternate Timeline of our Earth, where the events of Ending E ruined our planet... Nier has quite a few callbacks to Drakengard, i wouldn't be surprised if Automata does as well...
