• The Death of Final Fantasy XV

Final Fantasy XV drops in little over a month and Square keeps dripping information for the game. Today, we have four minute gameplay video of Noctis casting this iteration's Death spell. Death in this game works a bit differently than what we're used to seeing in the series. A purple light emerges from Noctis's hand and the enemy's health is slowly drained and converted to Noctis while it grows thin and eventually disappears. It's definitely different and seems to be more accurate than its appearances in other games with the downside being that it isn't instantaneous.
You can watch the gameplay trailer below. Final Fantasy XV hits PlayStation 4 and PC on November 29.

Can you imagine it, cancelling the game right about now?

Am I the only one who thinks Noctis is like Cid in Tactics?

      Dude they are sword saints.

Seems kinda OP but supposed to be late game. Also who knows maybe for the demo video they have things disabled that make it look more powerful than it is?

I am hoping for more ring magic than that!

Seriously, the title just blindsided me on this idle Tuesday. xD

The spell looks really evil. Imagine being hit by that. Usually the bad guys are the ones who simply make people "pop" into non-existence (in cutscenes, admittedly), so it's actually quite a brutal and dark attack compared to previous Death spells which were a bit more simple or even comical. Very dark. I like it, but I get the impression I'm going to feel a little bad using it on innocent animals. xD

I read the title and was like "WHAT?!" *click* "Ooohhh, death!". I'm liking this spell! It seems a bit overpowered but it is an end game spell, and it's optional so it's not like you have to use it. It will certainly come in handy when you're backtracking on quests and stuff. More ring magic announcements please (I heard that Toad is going to be a spell too but I'm not sure if that's been confirmed)! Also I'm loving the purple aura that the spell casts and the way the enemies physically diminish. The only thing I would say is that it seems a bit weird being able to use the spell on mechanical enemies.

I'm glad to read the responses about my thread title choice. The animation looks okay to me. I still think IX has the best animation for the spell.

Guys, watch from about 1:40. When Noctis uses the Death Spell on the Goblin he does some evil laugh as if he's being possessed when using it. It's pretty creepy.

Yeah, it seems overpowered but I imagine it'll be late to endgame, with possibly some other restriction like 'no EXP earned'. So it might function a bit like Warp magic.

The animation is horrific though, which suits the spell.

To be fair the Lucii are creepy as all get out and kinda seem like grade A jerks. :/

      I don't think it's that OP.

From the looks of it, the bigger the enemy, the more HP they have, the longer you have to channel it to get the effect off. And, if you get interrupted, you lose the Death effect and only get the very minor damage over time it does. Plus, EVERY enemy in that trailer immediately targeted Noctis when he started using it on them, in an attempt to counter him. And quite a few got some hits it and interrupted the effect.

Several, like the Iron Giant and the Bandersnatch, were too powerful for him to just Death right out of the gate, so he ran around, tossing other abilities or letting his buddies beat the critters down, until their health got low enough for him to get the full channel off that he needed to activate the effect.

I think it works. I means that there is risk/reward to using it. If you can channel it over time, you'll get to instantly kill a foe, and regain a little bit of HP. But, you're basically defenseless while doing it, and if you get hit, there were WAY more efficient ways to be spending your time.

Without knowing how long the full fights against some of those foes were (there were clear cuts in the Bandersnatch fight), and without knowing how long some of those enemies take to kill without Death, it seems way to early to call it OP. I mean, for basic Goblins and such, they're never much of a barricade to Final Fantasy adventurers anyway.

Yeah, I more or less agree with Skyblade. You're super vulnerable during the attack; it seems very easy to interrupt. For those who've played ZoE2, it makes me think of the Vector Cannon , albeit more practical.
