I’m beginning to have doubts that Red XIII will be playable in this episode.

The voice acting seems fine for what it is: A dramatic video game with eccentric anime-like dialogues and statements. They're not in context in the trailer, obviously, and are just pulled soundbites that will inevitably make sense when given context, scenario, etc. Also, I felt like they were the same voice actors from previous games.

Digging everything about this. Can't wait for Tifa and Red XIII to be revealed! I am hyped.

I've already been seeing people complain about Tifa's tits and we haven't even seen them.

Also saw some complaints about how Cloud looks to feminine. I lol'd

Yeah, I'm pre-ready to not care at all.

Why ? This episode should at least go up to leaving Shrina HQ.

I heard somewhere that you'll be able to switch freely between any characters in your party. I think it was the Final Fantasy Union video on YouTube about the myriad blink-and-you'll-miss-it details hidden in the trailer.

It's looking good so far - I especially like the fine detailing on the scenery and characters, and fine touches like the animations and hit effects for each character during combat.

I'm still dubious about whether they'll ever actually finish and release any of it. The fact that it'll be episodic also gives me pause - how much content per episode, and how often? How many hundreds of HDD-hogging gigabytyes by the time it's actually done? Are they going to use "episodic" as an excuse to discard tonnes of content and reduce the game to a highlight reel of key scenes? Or just as bad, go the Valve route of abandoning future episodes entirely because it's cheaper and easier to focus on other games instead?

Sure, I sound very pessimistic about all this. It's mainly because I have so little faith in Tetsuya Nomura's creative ability. I simply don't think he has what it takes to direct a full-blown remake of FFVII in its entirety, and I don't think Square-Enix has sufficient talent or passion to commit to the project either. I'd love to be wrong, but I've been seriously dubious ever since that early announcement that the remake was going to be episodic, apparently because they simply couldn't figure out how to release it as a complete product.

*potential FFVII spoilers if you somehow haven't played it yet*

There's still so much we don't know about this game, hopefully we will get the answer to many of those questions next month.

I mean, this is Final Fantasy VII. However, they're touting this as a "new story". So far the opening scenes feel extremely faithful to the beggining of the game, but we have to remember that Final Fantasy VII is part of a compilation now.

We can forget about Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus due to the fact that they take place after the events of Final Fantasy VII. However if they really want to tell a new story then they'll have to of course reference Crisis Core if they want it to remain canon. Aerith will be pivotal to this and I hope they get her to expand on her past, especially in the scene with her being taken away from her mother and when she references Zack. I don't want her to just say "oh you look like someone I knew once".

If anything they have been giving off the impression that they will expand on existing content, with more of Midgar being explorable. They have stated something along the lines of each episode having a full game worth of content which I'll take with a pinch of salt but still will expect something at least on par with Life is Strange levels of content, with likely additional cutscenes.

Life is Strange doesn't have that much content. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but if that's the measuring stick we're going by we may have trouble.

Well, with the inevitable story of Midgar with fighting added in, it'll already be bigger immediately. And, again, it has been at least suggested by SE that each episode will be on par with a full game from them. I don't think it'll go to that extent but we shall see.

Personally I'm not overly bothered so long as the price of the episode justifies the size/length of the episode. And to be honest, I'd pay three times as much money for my favourite game of all time in comparison to what I pay for a regular game, so a remake would probably get me paying silly money no matter what.

They said that in terms of length, it will be comparable to the games in the FFXIII trilogy.

I'm usually weary of developer talk about game length, especially with RPGs, because I find more often than not, that they try to make a game sound longer by using the number associated with a 100% playthrough over someone just trying to finish the story mode. With that said, I'm more concerned about the episodes getting over-inflated with boring side content to pad the game out. You know, Episode 1 could have been the whole first disc of the game, but instead it's just the Midgard sequence because half the game was helping the various inhabitants of Midgard get those 50 bear butts they desperately need to live another harrowing day in their dystopian setting. You might be saying to yourself now, "WK, are you still bitter about 70% of the content of Crisis Core was the same quest just in one of the games seven different dungeon maps?" and I would say: "Yes, I'm still really bitter about that"

Course, we'll have to wait and see but judging by many of their recent games, SE really likes MMO style quest shenanigans.

Yeah, that would be a shame if it's all badly written etc. and overly repetitive, but I don't think I'd let that get in the way of my enjoyment of the game for what it is. At least, I hope not! I'm going to go into it assuming the worst and enjoying the moments more than I am focusing on the game in it's entirety - if I want a replica of FFVII, I have FFVII. Similar to how I don't bother buying HD remakes of FFX/FFXII (although admittedly this is on a completely different level of graphics improvement).

Rumored leaks are saying it's actually only going to be two episodes, with the first ending where disc 1 ended, but take that with a grain of salt, as with all rumors.

The original FFVII wpuld have been well worth the full price of the PSX + game price + price of a memory card if I never had played another game on the console. The remake though? Hard to put a price on having your memories trout on. Let's say $20 for the curiosity factor/hope that it's not bad.

You'd seriously only spend $20 on a tribute to a great game? I wouldn't bother playing it if I were that sensitive about my precious memories. The memories will still be there, the remake changes nothing about the original game. Based on what I've seen so far, they will have a buttload of amazing custscenes of what we saw when we played the original game, and I would pay $20 for all of those cutscenes alone. I might not like parts of what they change if they change anything, but I'm not going to act like my favourite game of all time is somehow tarnished for it. It'll still be the greatest game of all time for me. This is just an opportunity to see some seriously cool upgrades on the graphics, beyond anything else in the series, done to my favourite game. What's not to like about that? I'll happily pay.
