Info: Vivi is a Black Mage, and is the second most important character in the game, following Zidane. Although he is feared and respected in the world of Gaea, like all mages, he is very warm and pure at heart. Vivi is very clumsy, and often ponders his existence, and the existence of everything. His history is a mystery to everyone, and this is a key reason for his curiosity about the nature of the world, and the existence of all living things. The only real thing that Vivi knows about himself is the fact that he is a Black Mage, and is the only one who is not powered and controlled by Queen Brahne. He will join up with Zidane in the midst of a battle with other possessed Black Mages. His appearance is sort of a throwback to the original Final Fantasy's. Vivi can learn a lot of powerful black magic spells by equipping the right weapons, armor and items, and can supply magic for Steiner's sword so he can use the Sword Magic ability. Therefore, when Steiner and Vivi are in your party at the same time, you can perform extra powerful attacks with Steiner. It will take some time to learn the spells, though, since Vivi starts as just a young Black Mage without too much experience.

Black Magic

As you may already well know, Black Magic is mainly used as an offensive force. It is based on mainly the elements, and can also entice negative status effects on the enemy. His spells can be learned from the Staffs that you buy or pick up along the journey. Many of the spells are rare, and can only be found through a rare weapon. You will see that Vivi has a 'Focus' ability that he can use in battle. Make sure to use this at the beginning of every battle, as it will increase the amount of damage that Vivi's spells will inflict. Another tip is to not let the enemy use the Reflect spell, or all of Vivi's attacks will reflect back onto him, causing massive damage. If this happens, get a White Mage to cast Reflect on a fellow party member, and then cast the Magic on that member.

You must rely on his magic as your main offense. The attack power that he has is very weak, because his staffs are to be used mainly for magic. So remember to always keep his MP high, so he doesn't become useless.
