  1. Fairly German vibes, really.
  2. Nothing like either Portugeuse actually sounds more Russian than Polish does, for some reason.

    Here:

    Warning: terrible cheesiness ahead
  3. I actually don't think I have. On a scale of Russian to Spanish, how does Polish sound?
  4. Have you heard Polish?
  5. It is a reasonably good language, as far as expression goes. It doesn't have the prettiest sound though.
  6. My best friend and I speak almost exclusively in English - much to the dismay of everyone around
  7. Not a problem I always figured they were things you'd be able to notice, which is why usually I just say "There's this thing that I'm sure a proofread would pick up". My best friend is from Brazil and has been bilingual Portuguese/English all her life, and is much better at her written English, so I know you're not the only person who knows English better than their first language. She credits the fact that she simply likes English more - she annoys her parents by speaking it at home and apparently she even thinks in English these days. Pretty great.
  8. Yeah, I know. It's funny how you mention grammar, because when you mention those kinds of mistakes - they are glaringly obvious to me and I feel like I really know that and that's more like just an error instead of a real mistake I know English is not exactly my first language, but I have been bilingual since childhood, so most of those are just sloppiness - believe it or not, my writing in Polish is waaaay worse for some reason! My teachers can attest But yes, I know you're not trying to go for harsh and I do know you don't hate my writing, and I do know I need it. So, once again, thanks a lot, AlaynaMae, for giving it your all to help me You truly are a boon to this forum.
  9. Sorry, I'm not trying to go for 'harsh' - I just know you want to improve and you're not going to do that if I only say the compliments. The only thing that really needs work is the occasional mechanical error. I hope you don't think I hate your writing or anything - I really love a lot of what you do and I just want you to be able to tighten that grammar stuff so that it doesn't take away from how high quality everything else is.

Comma splices are a weird thing - they can be used stylistically in creative writing sometimes. But it's one of those things where if you don't use them very often, or in the wrong places, it's jarring because it doesn't feel deliberate.
  10. I've noticed your critique of my work is pretty harsh, but don't worry - I really do appreciate it. I know I need it and people rarely want to say it like that. So yes, you do help me as I really do need that. And I have been paying more attention to comma splices, so there you go It's interesting, because those were never an issue for me in my academic writing. I'm surprised they'd get so... Egregious
