  1. I don't doubt it at all. The upside is that it's genuinely interesting. And quite useful for me, as a "writer".
  2. I have lost several entire nights of sleep thanks to that time vacuum.
  • Oh god usually as soon as someone mentions TV Tropes I lose at least an hour. I once spent 6 in there D:
  • Yeah, one of the best hopes to generate traffic is to create content that's fun to read. I can spend hours sucked in at Cracked or TV Tropes because there's so much interesting, entertaining content at those sites.
  • I ended up being linked back to that thread too. It seemed so doom and gloom back then. The owners have been real good to us lately, and I think any improvement looks good for their wallets.

There's been a big plan to write some entertaining as well. I mean, good guides are great, but like The Power of Cheese was awesome. Humorous articles about things gets people to read. Blogging is still a powerful force on the net, so if we can get EoFF to blog well, then we can entice people and generate activity.
  • Facebook sucks, to be honest. I liked it decently for what it was in the beginning (though I never felt it would replace forums), but with every redesign the site gets worse. The most recent one wasn't terrible I guess, but all the ones before that were awful.

The point about the images is a good one. And yeah, GameFAQs is awfully damn stuffy. Luckily it seems like your owners have at least started giving enough of a to start letting the staff actually do stuff. So the stuff I wrote about here, at least, you no longer need to worry about.
  • We're taking steps to try and improve that. You compete with GameFAQs by writing good guides, having good information, and having images. Also, being entertaining. I don't use GameFAQs much any more simply because I cannot handle all the text.

All of it does apply, and yeah, covering more games content wise isn't going to aid us at all. But we'll survive, especially if some of the planned stuff actually goes ahead. Facebook is killing forums but I don't think it'll ever really die. You can do a lot more on forums than Facebook offers.
  • Yeah. Not enough time.

The problem with game content is, well, how do you outdo sites like GameFAQs anyway? It's not easily possible. Basically most of the problems in this post and its immediate successor still apply, with the additional problem that a lot of people have just completely abandoned them for social networking sites like Facebook. It's sad, but a lot of forums are probably just going to have to make do with less traffic. I'm not really able to spend much time on Facebook before I get twitchy, so I've just spread myself out over more forums lately. Then again last.fm is filling a large part of the void as well.
  • Dragon Quest IX is alright, I borrowed it off a mate. I'm only like two hours in or so, but the DS has never been my preferred platform. Still, it's a good game so far, just they talk for so long in the beginning of these damn games xD

I imagine the front site could easily post SE news in general, including DQ and their other stuff. But I don't think we currently have any reporters, whoops. I've volunteered for every role the site has and should have but I can't do everything xD
  • Square Enix just sucks lately. Or at least the part of the company making Final Fantasy games does. Dragon Quest VIII was actually really good, and I hear DQIX was good too, but I haven't played it yet because I don't own a DS. I will definitely be picking up DQX though. I'd suggest covering DQ content, but really it's nowhere near as big a draw as the Final Fantasy series and probably won't ever be.
