Conversation Between Fynn and Wolf Kanno

  1. It does kind of feel like they’re blending some of the more interesting elements from XII, XIII and XV into this battle system. If anything, it does look like a solid blend of action and ATB, which is exactly what they promised. I’m also just shocked that this is coming out in less than a year.

What’s also strange is that, I don’t know if you’ve noticed but the voice cast has been entirely replaced. I have no idea why. New guys sound really good, Cloud especially, but still
  2. I'll agree that extending Midgard and finally placing more emphasis on the terrorist aspect are all good changes. It sounded from the gameplay trailer that you can set-up the A.I. for characters when not in use, but I'm not holding my breath that it's going to be as extensive as XII's Gambit. I still can't imagine that they're going to give you as much materia options as the original in terms of how many abilities you can carry with you. It's going to be interesting to see how summons work out in this one, especially since we already have confirmation on three new ones as pre-order bonuses.

I do like the switching mechanic as I feel it adds more value to the team which is something I've always felt was missing in XIII and XV.
  3. Similar. My interest was near zero, but then somehow, magically, this trailer and gamplay has sold me on this? Like it genuinely feels like how I felt about the original game at first, while at the same time there is evidently a lot of new concepts in this, and I'm all up for reinterpretation. I have similar worries regarding Aerith, but this trailer was also a bit better about showing her, so I'm still hoping they'll keep her streetwise. And I know you're not a Tifa fan, but I do like the way she seems to be fitting into this game. Her design is nice and I like that she's voicing the more moral concerns regarding Avalanche's activity that the original game kinda glossed over. It looks like they;'re trying to add a bit mroe self-reflection this time around, which might bode well for the third act of the game, but we'll see.

So far, I'm convinced it'll be three disks, with the second one ending either after Aerith's death or Cloud's breakdown, but we'll see. Honestly, when thinking about it, making Midgar a whole game of its own makes a ton of sense with how dense it is compared to the rest of the game, and I'd rather have a really fleshed out, explorable Midgar than have it be half-assed just so more game can happen. Also, structurally it works, with the Shinra building acting as a great final dungeon of a first entry.

Another thing that I really like so far is the battle system. The ATB gauge use with the menus, along with switching party leaders on the fly really reminds me of FFXII, which is always a good connection to make. Makes me wonder if we'll have something like gambits for the party members not currently controlled.
  4. It's looking far more promising than it did a year ago. Still not sure if it will be a Day One purchase for me, but the combat trailer eased a few concerns I had about it.

My only remaining concerns so far is that Aerith looks like she's lost a bit of her spunk from the original and feels closer to her Messiah caricature from all of the post-VII appearances. Other than that, my other concern is that the game may overload the boss fights and scenario with too much flash which will murder the game's pacing. The Guard Scorpion fight started off pretty cool, but as the video went on, I really felt like it was dragging in places. The Midgard section being possibly two blue ray discs worth of content is intriguing since it was my favorite part of the original, but now I'm concerned it may only be so long cause its going to get dragged down by tedious content or cutscenes for the sake of it. We'll have to wait and see, but I'll admit, I'm far more likely now to pick it up new as opposed to waiting for a used copy.

    How about you?
  5. Penny for your thoughts on the FFVII remake after the most recent coverage
  6. I went Ice magic, which gives her most of the healing magic it seems.
  7. Which skill set did you end up picking for her? I had the zip one that gives you Megido earlier and it was great
  8. I may try that, but I am sporting a high MAG cost party for my point in the game. I think my other issue is that I either need to start giving Nemissia points in endurance, or move her to the back row finally. I've been treating her like the female partner in SMT1 and pouring most of her stats into magic and agility.
  9. Remember to trade your MAG for ten and vice versa for optimal profits
  10. More like just finally breaking away from mobile games to focus on cleaning up my handheld backlog. Detective Pikachu helped jump me back into Ruby, but I was actually working on Soul Hackers before then because I was thinking of starting Apocalypse until I saw Soul Hackers next to it and remembered I never gave the game a real chance. I'm at the airport after the vision quest, but I really need to grind some money for better gear.
