Ah, well it will probably be awhile before I get to Pearl anyway, so it won;t matter much. I'm largely grinding up all the Pokemon I've caught at the moment while running around looking for the next Gym or story beat. Besides that, I'm also thinking of trying to complete the final story DLC from the original SMTIV, but I also kind of got back into Soul Hackers.
Ah yes, you need the Pal Park for that, and that becomes accessible once you get the National Dex for which you need to have all Sinmoh Pokémon registered as seen. So for the main game, you’re stuck with Ponyta
I mean, you definitely can, but I can’t be certain when that becomes available
If I can transfer from Ruby, that may be great. I'll get my starter back.
I think you can also transfer pokes from Ruby. But I’m not sure if it isn’t until the post-game

Hey, you don’t really need fire to beat the game. And I’m pretty sure you get access to much more in the post game. Which reminds me that generation 4 had a pretty cool post game. So many legendaries to catch.
Sadly, I only own Pearl, and Ponyta isn't one of my faves, but they'll have to do it seems.
That’s not a problem if you play Platinum though. Plus, there’s always Ponyta
