Oblivious Garden. I think it's translated from Chinese and it's about a previous war hero who lost his title being sent to instruct Princesses in fencing for an upcoming event. They're all kind of imprisoned in this "Garden" and can't leave. There are four romantic paths and there's a DLC with like a side story included as well. I did the first route and I'm on the second one now
Agreed =) Btw now I'm curious, what VN are you referring to?
Yeah that makes sense. As long as you find something that works for you that's what matters. That's why I usually go with a Love it, meh, hate it scale in my reviews :P
I mean I guess it's a little strange that I end up never using half my scale (as I've never given anything less than a 5), but I feel like it's still theoretically possible that something offends me so much I give it a 1 or 0, which would be a dislike equal to how much I like my favorites. I feel like it's only logical for that to be the other extreme of the scale, and the things I consider 'not worth reading' are still far away from that. So yeah, that's how I end up with my scale. I think most people use a scale similar to yours, but this one works for me~ Though with that being said, rather than a numeric scale I generally use an actual grading system, with A being an all-time favorite, B being something special, C being worth experiencing, D being not worth experiencing, E being dislike, F being hate.
Ah, I see. I go by like a 5 being average. Not good, not bad. 6-7 would be worth my time, but probably won't prompt a replay. 7.5-8.5 would be a really good and 9+ would be excellent. Below 5 would be a bad, not worth my time. 3 or below means I couldn't even keep playing/reading/watching etc
Well I go by a school-like approach, so when 5/10 is complete neutrality (as in all positives have equal negatives to balance it out) and a failing grade, 8/10 is something like a good C. Since I generally like to try and appreciate all I can in a VN or game it's not that high a score for me. 7.5 or lower is often not something I'd consider recommending to other people (depends on the length, a 40 hour VN that's only a 7.5 is a definitive No).
8/10 is a pretty high score!
Appreciate it for the potential but not for its execution I guess. That's what a lot of my 8/10s are. Like it's good but nothing special.
So I'm playing a VN right now that I'm enjoying, it's quite beautiful, and it has an interesting story in theory. However, the translation is on the poor side and the execution of the story is really not very good. The writing, even outside of the translation issues, is a bit clumsy and awkward. So if you were reading it, would you appreciate it for the potential or meh it because of the execution?
