Usually, yes, if you have the right Pokemon, but it counts as the encounter for wherever the trade takes place, I believe. And you can't hunt for the right Pokemon to trade for.
it probably too late but are ingame trades allowed? i got an onix way back, i just assumed it would count as that towns encounter. ive actually still got it as a steelix at cianwood
Voltorb Flip, no. In fact, the Game Corner stuff is usually encouraged, as getting a Pokemon through the coins you get is the best way to get a new encounter in whatever city it takes place in. I don't think there are any rules about Pokeathlon, mostly because I don't think there are any major rewards you get from the system.

It's an art piece that my girlfriend's sister did for me. It's based around the Halberdier class from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. It's actually one of several works that she did for me and some friends in this style, though this is the only one I've had downsized enough to use as an avatar on EoFF due to the size limits.

A little bit. You probably won't get a Fire Type at all (unless you choose the starter), because they are really rare. And the finally grind up to Cynthia is a killer, because she is massively overleveled. But other than that, it's not too bad.
