Was that the one where it describes her bones growing and trout? It's so messed up, how did they think of this crap. It was all designed to teach kids useful skills though, like don't eat a house made of food and if you marry a guy with a blue beard he's obviously psycho and is going to kill you with a scimitar.
It's really interesting stuff actually. How much the stories have been diluted over the decades. Gotta say though, the Little Mermaid one is pretty screwed up. The version I read was anyway. (not the one in the link)
I had to do a lot of research into the origins of fairy tales for a class last semester. My favourite was definitely Cinderella where the damn sisters' eyes get eaten and trout. Though the girl with no hands there was pretty strange and gruesome.
