Conversation Between Fynn and Wolf Kanno

  1. I mean, they still have to make sense culturally speaking. From what I’ve seen, some puns in the Japanese version are very much a Japan-only thing that would go over our heads, so they make up something that will resonate far more. We can hate on puns all we want, but imo it’s hard to deny the creative effort that went into these localizations.

So how’s the writing coming along? I’m managing to write every day, even if it’s just a little. Of course, I can’t help but feel that everything I write is crap, but I’m pushing through. I really want to reach that editing stage.
  2. Wasn't aware, but are you sure they're not just making new puns to stay in line with Japanese ones?
  3. As a translator, I can guarantee that’s not how that works. Puns by their nature are untranslatable. You have to come up with new ones.
  4. To be fair, he's just doing a direct translation with all the puns.
  5. So today I learned that Richard Honeywood, Xenogears’ sole translator, was responsible for the localization if DQVIII and the DS remakes. So we have him to thank for the new DQ localization standard :P
  6. Well I kind of want to finish my other horror story because I was meaning to enter that into a contest.
  7. Just write a bit and see what sticks.
  8. Kind of fell off the wagon, but I should probably be inspired soon since I have a few friends doing NaNo this year, so I'll be talking shop. I've been in the mood to write my political Matsuno inspired story I was brainstorming last year, but part of me wants to finish up a few stories I'm close to the end for instead.
  9. Well, I got a boost of confidence from the contest, so I got a burst of speed. Don’t know if I’ll have a beta draft by the end of the year, but that’s my goal! Bro’s started Xenogears, so we’ll hopefully get the comic rolling soon too. I’m also thinking of submitting the story to a contest with an actual prize so who knows, maybe I’ll get published again?

    How about your stuff?
  10. How are your novels doing?
