That sounds like a new bug in the port. I don't remember anything weird like that in the NES version. I've noticed the ports tend to be higher in bugs though. In the ports of DQIII for instance, when you used the Merchant ability to summon a Merchant, the code was done weird so it was possible to summon a Merchant from late parts ASAP if you started a new game but had a late save on another save file for the game.
Well then let’s hope we can continue doing writing to the capacity that we want. Btw, I noticed a weird bug (I think?) in DQII, and I’m not sure if it’s specific to the mobile port or if it’s something universal. When using zoom or a chimaera wing, I can warp to Tatengel, even though it’s still quite a bit until I can get my ship and actually get there. Have you ever had something like this happen? And it’s consistent, I can still do it, it’s not a one time thing.
I figure your real life is pretty hectic now, so no worries. Glad to hear the DQ love is still going strong for you. I on the other hand fell out of the swing of things and I'm now cycling through the Metal Gear franchise instead. I finished the first three installments and I'm now going to start MGS2 tonight. I am still keeping up on DQIV, but I'm almost finished with Torneko's chapter and I know my interest will likely crash not long after that. I may switch back to Soul Hackers instead or try to finish Tactics Ogre. With that said, my writing could be going better. I've only seem to be able to write into the story bible sporadically for my Spider-Man project, and I wrote a short piece I may enter into the EoFF Halloween contest so I can save the longer piece for a contest entry. It will likely depend on if I get any more work done on the other story on which I'll enter, but at least I have a backup if the other one drags.
Sorry it took me so long to reply. I haven’t had much time to actively participate here lately. Yeah, handheld aversion is one thing, but then there’s also the fact that the 3DS is being phased out in the US, unlike in Japan where it’s still thriving. Makes me worry we might not get Persona Q2 because of this. Still, I’m kinda hoping Nintendo will step in again to release DQXI on the 3DS too. As much as I love XI so far, I know I’d be able to put so much more time into it if I were able to play it on a handheld. As for DQX, apparently it wouldn’t be that hard to make it single player since reportedly you could effectively solo the experience becayse it’s designed as a DQ first and MMO second. Getting it without the online stuff is preferable to not getting it at all since apparently it’s really good, but then I can’t help but feel we’d be losing something really cool if we didn’t get the online content. It’s be like all the inaccessible online stuff and multiplayer in DQIX again. Speaking of, I’ve reached Alltrades Abbey in DQIX and am almost done getting everybody to level 15 on every job I have available so far (got armamentalist and gladiator, so I have eight in total), all for those sweet extra skill points. I forgot how fun metal slime hunting can be, especially if instead of random encounters you have symbol encounters and can actually see the metal slimes before you engage them In DQXI I have five party members now, so progress is slowly but surely being made. It’s still good. I’ve also beaten DQI again on a fairly low level (18), so I’m pretty happy about that since I was over 20 the last time. Now I’m playing II. Got the prince of Cannock on my side, did everything I could on the northernmost continent and have traveled south in search of the princess. Don’t be fooled into thinking gaming is the only thing I’ve been doing in my spare time though. I’ve started writing my story for the contest. Last weekend I got a pretty solid idea for a short so I hope it’ll be to your liking once it’s done
It would probably play just like IX. I know the producer was wanting to bring it over, but it's going to be a struggle for him cause DQ just never gets the type of numbers SE wants. I think XI is the first entry since the remake of DQV that SE has actually published in the West, and even then they opted for the PS4 version alone. VI, VIIR, VIIIR, and IX were all published by Nintendo. Course, the West's aversion of handhelds could also be to blame, not to mention SE seems to be doubling down on console releases this gen.
So apparently SE is considering localizing DQX as an offline game Not entirely sure how I feel about that tbh
I'm using this as a pretense to finish a story, but I oddly came up with an interesting short story in the meantime I'm still thinking of writing down. One that would be only two or three paragraphs long. My biggest time waster is brainstorming ideas for an alternate Spider-Man character I created that a friend of mine is helping me with. I think she might be one of my favorite characters I've come up with, and I think all of The Sandman stories I've read lately is starting to affect the narrative, but in a really good way. I originally intended for her to be a story exploring the legacy of Spider-Man, but now it's turning into a discussion of the super hero genre itself, which has been really exciting so far.
Yeah I know. I’m still brainstorming for it. For the first time I really don’t have any set vision for a story. It’s kknda exciting
Well you did have a new addition to the family to think about, so it's understandable. I've been meaning to get something for a contest but I keep missing deadlines thanks to RL stuff and jumping onto new projects before finishing the old ones. So I totally understand. There's still the Halloween contest though.
So one of my new year’s resolution was to have a beta draft for my book ready by the end of the year. With three months left, that is looking extremely unlikely right now. And I’m kind of mad about that
