Conversation Between Fynn and Wolf Kanno

  1. Funny enough, I had that series recommended to me and watched the first one. I was going to link it to you but figured you already saw it.
  2. I definitely haven’t fought him, but I think he’s in there. I’ve decided that I’ll be delving into all the post game content the next time I play all the DQs so I’ll definitely let you know for sure.

    In the meantime, please enjoy:

  3. He'd probably be called Zenith Dragon then. He's an optional boss introduced in the Super Famicom version and was in the GBC version as well. He grants wishes if you can defeat him within a certain amount of turns. One wish is a new Pasheesi Track, one if a wish to revive Ortega, and the last gives you the Dirty Magazine item which grants the Lewd (Male) and Sexy (Female) personality. He looks like Shenlong from Dragon Ball.
  4. What is the Divingon? If it’s there, it’s probanly under a diffeeent name because the mobile version uses the current DQ translation conventions
  5. That sucks, it's such an amusing mini-game, and if you played your cards right, an easy way to get an edge in the game because the weapon shops on the board usually sold really powerful gear earlier than usual, in addition to just the prizes you could win. The GBC version actually had a strange glitch left into where it was possible to send one of your characters to max level after a battle on the board. Does the mobile version keep the Divingon? I know the Monster Medals was a GBC exclusive.
  6. Meanwhile, I learned that the reason I never played Pacheesi is because the phone release had it removed
  7. Yeah, I started playing it again a while ago, but then the burnout quickly set in, and I learned I couldn't acquire the full Loto/Erdrick Gear because the online component is gone and apparently one of the pieces is stuck behind an optional mission released when the game was new. It's the Achilles Heel of the DS in general if you ask me because FFIII and a few other RPGs are forever incomplete on the system.

Torneko's chapter is still amusing, partly because it's easier to progress quickly since everything in the chapter drops loot. You barely have to buy stuff for him which cuts down on the grinding. I do wish there was more to his shopkeeper mini-game, especially since in DQIII, I left the Bazaar town where haggling was a thing.

Due to my PS3 controller battery dying and needing to recharge on my PS3, I ended up plugging in the Metal Gear HD Collection I accidentally acquired, so I spent the weekend tackling the original Metal Gear for MSX, and now I want to start Metal Gear 2 again. Silent Hill 3 is staring at me though...
  8. Yeah, the main game really doesn’t require it, but I want to do the optional content this time around, since apparently that’s where the meat of the game is. It’s a shame the multiplayer isn’t active anymore, or that I don’t have anyone with the game locally I feel like I’m missing a big part of the intended DQIX experience this way.
  9. I never even got around to using Sage in IX, not sure if I even unlocked it, I was still just trying to grind out the other classes and eventually got so overpowered I decided it was time to finish the game. Hell, I didn't even change my party's classes until I was 3/4ths of the way through.
  10. Ok, so now I can reply more seriously

Seems like you got a pretty good grip on what you want to do with your DQIII party, though I personally never had to give it too much thought and the game went pretty easily anyway. I followed your advice and, if I recall correctly, I made my warrior a thief for a while as well, my priest used the scroll to become a sage while my Mage went the gadabout route to get there. I’m assuming you’re not using sages this time because they’re broken? Because they are.

Torneko’s chapter was unexpectedly fun, I remember. I also wonder sometimes if I would have a better impression of the game when I attempt it again. I’ll definitely get here eventually.

As for my progress, I now have four party members in DQXI and they’re all great. The way the party works and their banter is very reminiscent of VII, and it’s very much a good thing, but I won’t say more lest I spoil the fun for you. Haven’t had the chance to play DQI but I have restarted DQIX because I felt a craving for its job system and I’m shocked at how much fun I’m having. I’m still near the beginning - don’t even have Patty’s Party Planning available yet - but with how let down I was the first time overall, I don’t think I noticed how charming the game really is. In that regard at least, it’s still a DQ through and through. I think it was a mistake playing it immediately after VIII last time - the character interactions and exploration from that game set up expectations for something IX just really doesn’t focus on and it’s much better approaching it in a way that sets you up for appreciating it for what it is.

I’ve also made some planning for my party. For my hero, I wanted to focus on swords and shields, going through Minstrel and Warrior before making him more focused as a Gladiator. I also want a thief who will later become a Ranger/Armanentalist focused on bows, a priest with Spears as their main focus, becoming a paladin later, and a mage with wands that will also pick up some priest skills to later become a sage.
