The thing about the slow acceleration is that people hit you quite often with shells and other weapons, then you will continually be losing your speed so it could get pretty frustrating. I guess too that if TK and Toad ARE slow, but with decent acceleration, the ground you'd make up in the corners on the other characters would make them seem fast. O: edit: Decent acceleration and good handling*
Yes I just saw that, too! And then in other FAQ's they quote DK as being Slow and with Toad being fast. So I'm confused now. If my SNES emulator hadn't broken, i'd play Mario Kart now and find out. :{ Oh well, looks like we'll definitely have to have that race now. :D (only, not on rainbow road. :}) edit: Although, I suppose at the end of the day it comes down to how you drive with your chosen driver. DK was always slow and not good to me, but he is your favourite character and you're good with him, and TK is apparantly the slowest character in the game, but I always found him to be quick and the best, so I suppose it's all relative to your skill. :D
I have yet to find a good use for that smile, though I do agree that it is quite attractive!
I used to suck at that level on the original game 'cause I always drove off the edge. :{

Toad definitely had the best acceleration, I am 100% sure of that. Checking most of the faqs on gamefaqs seems to confirm Toad and TK as the fastest and lightest. That's another reason why I liked TK, he handled like a demon! But, there is only one way to find out. One day, we will hook up three SNES consoles, I will use TK, Sapphire will use Yoshi and RSL will use DK, and we will have a race.
That's what I would have said if I was clever at all!
Koopa Troopa wasn't slow! He was the smallest character along with Toad and they were both the fastest, but Koopa Troopa had a slight advantage in top speed compared to Toad's accelration. At least, that's how I remember it. :mog:
Clearly that is the best option.
