Conversation Between Fynn and Wolf Kanno

  1. I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm a bit of a control freak. If my work was to be adapted, I would want to be intimately involved, or in the case of working on something I finished that others would want to continue, I would probably end the story in a way that would give it no justifiable reason to be continued. That's something I've been noticing with my comic book project. I have a character I feel would be super amazing, but I've already planned for her story to have a specific end, so unless the book was cancelled before I got there, I can't really think of a way to continue her story without some ass pull plot nonsense.
  2. It’s a mess. I hate it.

I’m always fascinated with the aspect of control over your work, though, and how that works both in the monetary context, as well as the work itself. Like, on the one hand, I’d love my work to be successful enough that people want to adapt it - but then, where do I draw the line? How much control do I want to relent? How much is that control worth?
  3. Copyright and IP Laws are always fascinating. One of my favorite classes in college was Communication Law. Yeah, he likely deserves some better compensation, which is better than what you'll get in some other countries.
  4. I’m sure the games can get over the heartbreak with some therapy

So today I learned the author of the Witcher is suing CD Project Red because they’ve made a crap load of money from a game based on his stuff but only rewarded him with a single payment that amounts to a tiny fraction of the Witcher franchise’s worth. While it was his choice back then, because he doesn’t like games and didn’t believe the project would take off, the law is on his side, as Polish law says that if a party gets remuneration that end up being disproportionate to the gains, then the contract can be renegotiated. Imo he’s totally entitled to the money since he created the thing that let CDPR be successful, plus it’s his right, but of course the gaming press and fandom in general are framing it as you’d expect. Gamers, man
  5. It's more from the guilt I felt when I went through my collection and had to climb over all four games to get to DQIV. I mean I'm dodging four potentially awesome games to replay one I felt mediocre about cause the mood struck me. Not to mention Romancing SaGa 2 is just begging me to play as well.
  6. I’ve beaten PQ, but I don’t have Apocslypse yet. Might get to that someday.

The first two are definitely good games but like, nothing to lose sleep over It’s taken me a while to change my approach but I feel much happier right now just playing whatever I feel like. Not saying you need to do it or that it will work for anyone, but like, turns out games are much more fun if you play them for fun! Who knew
  7. The two big ones are Raidiata Historia (original) and Bravely Default. Though you encouraged me to keep on Soul Hackers as well. I also have Persona Q and SMT: Apocalypse to start as well.
  8. Hey, I really don’t care. Maybe the real game I bugged you to play is the friends we made along the way

I am curious though since I can’t even think of any games I’ve bugged you to play right now. Chalk it up to kind of finctooning on a different plane of existence for the past seven weeks
  9. You say that, but you don't know which games I've been putting off. A few of them are games you've been bugging me to play for a few years now...
  10. Disregard backlogs, man, and just go with the flow Life’s too short to force yourself into entertainment that you don’t feel like at the moment
