  1. Well all this DQ talk has derailed my SD3 playthrough and instead I'm playing the SNES remake of DQIII. I've also been thinking about giving DQIV another go since it's handheld, but I'm also being painfully told how far behind my handheld gaming is.
  2. For sure. If for anything, just to fill in the niche of players who still want that kind of experience.
  3. Basically. I can kinda understand that, but I personally think it’s extremely important that a series as conscious of its roots as dragon quest exists.
  4. I feel like he just misses the point of Dragon Quest, much like my one associate who can't wrap his head around Nintendo.
  5. Oof. Then again, everyone can have their own opinion on anything, so anything goes. I did laugh at the lack of dragons comment. And I get so annoyed with people getting upset over silent protagonists like it’s some relic instead of a valid stylistic choice.
  6. I usually love reading the bad reviews on Gamefaqs for games I play, it's insightful. This one is amusing cause the person in question seems to miss the point of DQ, but the last paragraph did kind of kill my merriment with it all.
  7. True, but some people are less reasonable.
  8. I expect Sugiyama might be training a protégé, much like Akira Toriyama has with Toyotaro. Still, I always kinda pity such artists because they’re never allowed to really get a voice of their own and are kinda pigeonholed into making a career of sounding like someone else.

Still, can’t be angry that the sound is different if the previous composer just straight up dies
  9. Possibly, granted I feel bad for the backlash they'll get for not sounding like the original.
  10. Well, he’s 87 now, so I imagine this might be his last DQ, especially since the new tracks for this game are apparently not too plentiful and a lot of tracks are reused from previous games, so I imagine he’s tired by now. I’ll miss his talent, but I’m pretty sure whoever succeeds him will have a much more ethical approach and maybe DQXII will finally have the in-game sound quality the series has always deserved.
