  1. lol I forgot to post the link. Here: https://blog.reedsy.com/writing-contests/

And yeah it was weird how late Maximillian got introduced considering his only use is in a war battle and there’s only one left. But oh well. Don Quixote references are always nice.
  2. You'll have to send me the list.

For the most part, Unite abilities are more important in the sequels, though Tir and Kai's are easily the best one in this game for dealing with groups. Viktor is one of my favorite characters in the franchise and I really wished he made a cameo in Suikoden III cause old man Vik would have been fun to have around. Soul Eater is my favorite rune as well, and is one of the most popular in the franchise. It's a gamebreaker in every entry it's appeared in, and it's likely the most popular rune in the franchise of the True Runes. My final team was Tir, Flik, Viktor, Pesmerga, Clive, and Luc. Though honestly, there are so many great characters in these games it's annoying being relegated to just a handful because I love Valerie, Kasumi, Humphrey, and Milich. I do wish Maximillian was playable, but alas, I'll just have to settle for his grandson in SIII, and one of his crazy supporters in SV.
  3. I dunno if you’ve seen this but here’s a list of contests that Freya once sold me. It might be a good idea to keep up with them if you want to get published!

Not gonna lie, I did not end up prioritizing unity attacks at all. I think Tir and Kai’s was really cool because it made really short work of random encounters, but then I had enough MP to spam Hell continuously and that was no longer necessary. Soul Eater is broken and by far my favorite rune. I liked a lot of characters but I think my favorite overall was Viktor. He is just, exactly my type of guy. Big dude who looks menacing but is actually really sweet underneath all that. Love the trope. My final party consisted of him, Tir, Flik, Valeria, Kirkis and Crowley. Valeria’s rune was also pretty broken and Crowley’s magic is just insane. Kirkis was a great support character with the wind rune I gave him.
  4. Well when the idea is ambitious, the process can be slow at times. I've been bouncing back and forth between three different stories. I'm trying to get Waiting finished by the end of the month. I won't be able to have it prepped well enough to enter it in a contest but I may actually just send the idea to a publisher instead.

Congratulations on beating Suikoden 1, so who were your favorite team members, Runes, Unite Attack, and moments? Yeah, SII is a massive leap over Suikoden 1 in just about every way. Have fun with the special save data bonus.
  5. Beat Suikoden and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I’m playing II and it’s already great. The graphics are somehow a huge leap, despite having a similar engine.

Also, I recently came up with something for my book that makes a critical change to how one of the main POV protagonists is introduced. I feel like it can give the book better focus, but I feel like it would really delay the character’s introduction, to the point that I’m wondering if there even is a point to showing the other two sides of the conflict from the inside in book one. We’ll see about that, I guess. The months pass but I’m still very early in this writing process
  6. Thanks a bunch!
  7. There is a girl with a Gryphon in a small village near Greenhill I believe, you need to recruit her to get the Gryphon as both count, but you'll need to use one of Badeaux's listening crystals. He gives you two for recruiting him which will allow you to recruit two of five Large Monster characters. If you need an easy guide I'd use this:

Suikoden II Recruitment Guide from Suikosource
  8. Well I think I’m nearing the end of Suikoden now. I got Leon and all the stars up until now, so I don’t have that many more to go.

So I’ll be jumping into S2 right after. What was it that you said about a girl with a griffin?
  9. I think I’ll go with this hybrid thing. Her grandma was a witch and she’s sensitive in that she can see stuff most people can’t see, but she’s otherwise just a normie with access to old spell books and other stuff her grandma left behind.

And yeah, count me in! I’ll be happy to read and critique anything
  10. Luc is a mage character as you've already likely surmised, and all the mages are stuck with S type weapons so it's better to throw them in the back row and let their magic do the talking. Of the elemental runes, Earth is the worst while Wind might be the best since it has both offensive, defensive, and healing based spells. Kai starts off higher level but the rest of the cast will catch up in no time and you'll soon learn he's actually got middling stats. His best attribute is that he has the best Unite Attack in the game for dealing with trash mobs and it's with the main character. I'm psyched cause you're about to meet one of my favorite ladies in Suikoden, Valerie and the iconic Falcon Rune.

Yeah, I'm just trying to keep the momentum going at this point which is why I switched to a different story or two. I may have you beta read The Forest redo I'm almost finished with. As for your story, I would go with witch, cause medium/paranormal investigator is kind of overdone at this point.
