I'm getting there myself. It is one of the reasons I'm thinking of diving back into some of my Japanese text books. Maybe I'll play an RPG in it's raw form and force myself to translate the whole thing. Something to get me back into regular usage.

I used to know a lot of the katakana and hiragana, at least, but I've forgotten most of them

My skills have seriously deteriorated. I can probably introduce myself and say goodbye and that is it. At one point I could write in hirigana and katakana.

It's still probably better than mine. After words like "kawaii" and "desu" and "watashi" I'm pretty much lost

My Japanese is lousy, I would starve to death and be homeless if I was dropped into Japan right now without a book or a helper.

Yeah, the translation projects are some of the best things about the site for sure, and probably the main reason we've continued getting new members when so many other final fantasy sites have died. I sort of wish I knew Japanese so I could contribute.

It wasn't too bad from what I checked out. I am still more interested in the translation projects though. Now that I have free time I should probably get back to my own translation project.
