During a scene in what is commonly called the Saiyan Saga (which involves Goku finding out about his alien heritage and fighting off an invasion consisting of approximately two people), Goku has just been ressurected by the Dragonballs after being killed off earlier by his brother Radditz. While he is dead he is trained by King Kai, who teaches him the Spirit Bomb technique among other things. The Saiyans have little devices called scouters which can read a person's Power Level (a measure of a person's ability to hold Ki or life-force inside them). Vegeta's disgust is combined from both the knowledge that there is a Saiyan stronger than him in the Universe, and pure disbelief that Goku could be so strong to begin with. Fun fact; The original Japanese line was actually Over 8000, but was redubbed as 9000 to fit the movement of Vegeta's mouth more accurately.
It's over 9000 is a Dragon Ball Z joke of sorts. (I don't really know the origin of it myself) Can anyone explain it?
