Those games are fun, though. By the time they got mainstream attention, I was already a legal adult, so nothing happened then either. Though I remember when I was in my early 20s my Aunt started to rant at me about how I shouldn't play them and how my mom could let me play them. My mom's reply: "Because he's 23 years old and can purchase whatever he wants."
Yikes. Fortunately, that was the only instance I could think of where my mom was being unreasonable and I eventually got the game anyway. The only games she wouldn't allow into the house after that was Grand Theft Auto and I never felt a strong urge to play those games, anyway.
Sorry to hear that. It always sucks when parents overreact to things like that. Fortunately my folks never got that way, but I had a couple of friends that had parents that got weird. A friend of mine in High School was really looking forward to Star Fox 64. The game came out and his parents felt it was too much, so they made him sell it to another friend.
Haha. My first Zelda game could've been the first Zelda game, but my brother wouldn't let me play either Zelda game he had because they were the special gold cartridge. Didn't get to touch that franchise until 98 and then I had to deal with my mom thinking it was too violent for me. Zelda is too violent, but I can watch my brother play Resident Evil. Okay...
Yeah, hard to believe that so much time has passed. I remember startling my younger sister's friends years ago when I told them I remembered a time where there was only two Zelda games.
Oh yeah, I keep forgetting it was 87. Lots of good stuff came out that year: Metal Gear, Zelda, Final Fantasy. That's three long running series in a row, go figure.
Yeah, but at the time it was cool to have heavy dialogue in a game. Yeah, LOTS of series staples go back to the original. Good stuff! Metal Gear Solid basically took the frame of the plot of Metal Gear 2 and redid it, minus minor details, of course.
It's fun seeing how far back the staples in the series go. I love the old retro theme they brought back for the V.R. missions. How annoying is Big Boss, though? I thought the Colonel was bad with his Codec calls.
I only played it once ages ago. So unfortunately, I can't help you with that. Metal Gear is a good, but archaic game. I remember having to do a lot of weird things just to get around.
Do you remember the room in the first game where you get the lvl2 card and when you come out you're about to be boxed in by the guard and the camera? Is there any way to get past that unseen? I plan to. It's just a matter of when since I usually spend the week on the game I'm reviewing.
