I'll have to watch video when I have more time I'm afraid. I figure they were not liked because they were stereotypical conspiracy theorist types.
Btw, Sudeways has just put out another really fun video Insistently, it has probably helped me understand why I like Blinded by Light and FFIII’s boss theme so much - they do the tension build up thing that he mentions talking about Chopin.
I think TV tropes mentioned that. Theyre apparently well liked by fans, but execs wanted them to be dropped. Idk, maybe it’s the times, since nerd culture wasn’t really as much an accepted thing back in the day, I guess
Never heard about them being hated, but I wouldn't be surprised.
They do, and I really wish this series could last longer! I love the lighter tone it has as it really fits the characters - the Gunmen were always very fun to watch whenever they showed up. Though I heard the execs apparently hated them? Which is just baffling.
I've been meaning to watch the Lone Gunmen again, I had fallen out of the series by the time their series came to light but I always loved those characters, and their "pilot" episode really showed they have great chemistry to carry a show.
So we’ve finished season 8! And while I understand the frustration with Mulder being out of focus, watching it for the first time knowing that the new movie and seasons 10 and 11 again allowed me to really appreciate what this season set out to achieve. Overall, I liked it a lot. More than season 7, definitely, and probably more than seasons 1 and 2 as well, but it’s still not the series peak that was to me seasons 3 to 6. While I missed the more comedic episodes - of which there were none this season - I liked both the introduction of Doggett and Reyes, and since I know Mulder and Scully will come back to the center stage later, I feel like I can appreciate them for what they are. Doggett especially was quite cool, with a very solid arc throughout and in general being far more likable than I expected. Other than that, the entire series was super tense and I loved the little nostalgic nods to what the series has been over the years, interspersed with big new elements, signifying a big change in the series. I also feel that whenever Mulder was on screen, he was utilized very well, and Scully’s pregnancy was another very strong point. So now I enter season nine a bit apprehensive. On the one hand, I really like the new opening sequence, and I love how apparently Skinner is listed as main cast now, so I’m very happy to see more of him because I am in love with him so hard. The season premiere was also decent, really upping the stakes. Then again, Mulder being pretty much completely gone this time around and Scully being very out of focus is very worrying. And while I enjoy Doggett and Reyes, I can’t help but feel sad about this changing of the guard, even though I have the comfort of knowing that this is temporary. Oh, and Cart Elwes was a very welcome surprise when it comes to casting - I’ve always loved him as an actor and was not expecting him here! I’m the meantime, we’ve also started watching the Lone Gunmen, so at least we have that to keep us grounded while we go through this very different season.
It almost sounds like he's saying WAN~KER at the end. It will be interesting to see how the Go Nagai anniversary series go. I hear Yu Yu Hakusho is also getting a 20th anniversary OVA in the coming year, so that is something to look forward to as well.
Have you seen this, btw?
I am very, very picky when it comes to modern anime. Honestly, most of the recent ones that I like can best be described as “arthouse”, and Tatami Galaxy was definitely that. I’ll definitely want to watch Devilman Crybaby eventually, but that’ll have to wait because I don’t watch anime alone, and the wife is currently not... in a state to be watching excessively gory anime
