Yeah, I'm kind of sick of the whole new Extra Waifu Edition entries Atlus is doing. Though to be fair to them, they still get pretty positve receptions but I can't help but cringe. Still, it's not like MGS and Silent Hill are not filled with Japanese cultural elements in an "this is obviously the U.S" for their games, so I'm willing to let Catherine slide. Especially since the original was already guilty of it with the eateries seen in the game because we don't have conveyor belt sushi joints or causal restaurants where the staff wear formal wear, but the patrons are not required.
Honestly, though, the thing that bothers me far more about Rin is that aesthetically she could not be farther removed from the ostensibly American setting this game has. No one in the West wears sailor suits anymore. She is so Japanese looking that it is becoming harder and harder for me to suspend my disbelieve. And I saw bits from the wedding reception ending - a wedding that was very embarrassingly Japanese as is (though I’ve stumbled on it by accident and don’t gave many spoilers so yay) And let’s be real - the absolute worst thing Atlus is guilty of recently is that in their eyes, what constitutes a good remake is the addition of a new waifu for the fans to jerk off to, no matter how out of place she may seem
Yeah, this feels too much like a clickbait article. Let's also just poitn out how the other two K/Catherines were sexualized in their own art work with Catherine being a boob girl and Katherine being a butt girl, so there is really only one sexualized place to go for a third girl. Not to mention Catherine herself kind of covered more of the suggestive posing in the original artwork anyway.
I also agree it’s too little to go on, though I’m not against the idea of her being trans. But the backlash has been insane. https://www.google.pl/amp/s/kotaku.c...1821526522/amp
I'm going to be skeptical and say this is people looking too hard into this. Vincent does a lot of screaming in Catherine, and outside of context, most people wouldn't normally scream in some of those instances either. I mean, if I was being plagued by nightmares while also being stalked by a psycho blond bombshell I'm cheating on with my real GF and then a third girl showed up and "flashed the goods", I don't exactly think that "Gosh I'm so lucky I'm this popular!" would be my first reaction either in that situation.
I am 100% positive. There’s a scene in the new trailer where the new character is naked and her crotch is covered by Vincent’s head, and then he screams in shock. So it’s kinda implied? Either way, the Kotaku article on the controversy sums it up nicely
Are you sure they're not still whining about the trans character that was already in the game? It wasn't as much of a hot button issue back when it first came out so it didn't cause as much controversy then, but I can see today's overly-sensitive, knee jerk reacting internet finally picking up on it and being it's typical self in regards to this issue. Doesn't help that Japan is still cool with using LGBT issues for comedy, which it certainly was in the original Catherine.
So I just learned there’s already a troutstorm on the Internet over the Catherine remake, since apparently the new Catherine is hinted to be trans. People are losing their minds.
You've reached the point where Ilost interest in the series. I could never really get into Daggit's character and the show really lost the nice chemistry Anderson and Duchovny had with each other. I think the first two seasons are really my favorite, but that's probably because there really was nothing like them at the time so it was pretty groundbreaking at the time. When I was going through the series again a year or so ago, I stopped after season 5, so my memory is pretty foggy right now. As for XCX, you can tell by all of his past games that Sci-Fi is Takahashi's first love, so I'm not surprised the "game he always wanted to make" was going to be more of a pure sci-fi type of deal. I hear XC2 has more of a Gears/Saga vibe, but I always felt even the original XC1 had that going for it as well thanks to the art design and the final act of the plot. I've never played any of the Elder Scroll games to be able to make a judgement on how similar or different they both are. In the Souls titles, you generally get just enough info to know what you need to do, but if you ever want to know the backstory for all of the characters and enemies, you need to find the lore bits given in item descriptions. On the brightside, it makes it more rewarding to explore and be a completionist since every item adds a bit to the story. Of course, more impressive is the work by the community like VaatiVidya, who creates really cool lore videos on Youtube for the community, such as: Bloodborne Lore
I mean, I do get it to an extent, but then again Takahashi has gone on record he never makes the same game twice, and X looked pretty different pretty much from word go. But whatever, I still really like the story. The writing could use some work since many main story segments just keep reminding me that yes, we are some of Earth’s last survivors and we crash landed here, but it’s good regardless. And while I miss Takahashi’s trademark religious overtones, I do like the harder sci-fi approach we get here, honestly. Yeah, I heard those games make you connect the dots a lot and I’d definitely want to experience that because of it since it’s another thing that I seee rarely done in games. I guess Morrowind was like that, with the main narrative being pretty basic, but then in order to get the game’s lore you need to read tons of in game books. And I don’t think that’s a good approach. I don’t care how deep the world building goes - if it’s all in the in-game supplementary materials and not really woven into the game’s narrative itself, that’s not a gripping story. I still liked Morrowind though and would play more if it didn’t make me literally sick. But I have heard the Soulsborne games do it still differently so I’m definitely curious. So, X-Files! We’ve reached Season 8 and I’m honestly surprised with how much I’m enjoying it! I miss Mulder, but Doggett is an actually cool character and his dynamic with Scully is totally different, and that really makes the season refreshing so far, especially with the search for Mulder theme being somewhere in the background at all times, even in MotW episodes. Not to mention it brought back some much needed suspense and horror, and the episodes so far are about on the level of season four’s when it comes to darkness. They reminded me that it’s been really a long time since the series gave me chills, and now it’s happening again. We’ll see how this keeps going! For now, I think seasons three through six were the main highlight of the show. 1 and 2 were okay but didn’t grip me, aside from some brilliant Darrin Morgan episodes. Season 3 has really great standouts, such as my still all-time favorite Jose Chung’s, but I don’t think I hold it in such high regard as the rest of the fan base (the fan favorite “Pusher” was kinda dumb imo). Then season four marked the time when I got 100% on board this giant mess of a show with incredible darkness and tension - definitely the heaviest and hardest hitting season, what witb it’s smurfed up MotW episodes and Scully’s cancer. Season five had probably the best myth arc episodes, and some great uses of post-modernism. Season six may have been the lightest but I still loved it to bits with how played up Mulder and Scully’s chemistry was. Then season seven, even though it had a couple neat episodes (I actually loved the controversial Gillian Anderson-written and directed episode, and I think Duchovny might be my second favorite writer on the show, maybe tied with Vince Gilligan) it had like, what, two mythology episodes and it did start to feel like the show was losing steam. But now season eight is really exciting so yay! Ugh sorry to ramble but you’re pretty much the only person who listens to my X-files commentary anymore Literally nobody else here has watched the show to such a degree here! Imagine that!
