I can think of two very, very gut-punchy moments in that game, both built-up over the entire game. And they are so effectively pulled off that I still remember them to this day. So you're probably gonna feel it, but it's really effective storytelling and one of the resons why I love IV the most of the traditional entries.
It's super good though but not gonna lie, I stopped my homework and stopped playing the game for a few moments. Is IV worse than this one then?

You fight a monster, follow its blood trail through a cave when it runs away, kill it where it dies on its feet trying to block an entrance, and find out it was protecting its dead cubs that it apparently kept feeding in some weird denial That's like the heaviest first boss fight ever
