They try too hard with a lot of things. They need to not try so hard in the future.
XII's humor was mostly dry, which I can appreciate but still made the game feel a bit humorless compared to earlier entries. X-2's self-parody comes close to being excruciating painful to watch at times. They tried too hard with that entry.
XII at least tried here and there, but it was still a lot more serious than not. X-2 had some humorous moments, but most of them were unintentional.
Yeah IX was probably the last entry that had a good amount of humor in it.
I now get what you mean about Final Fantasy missing its humor. FFVI gets battrout insane at times and I love it.
