Conversation Between Fynn and Skyblade

  1. Well thanks! That's really nice of you You know I'm always open to collaborate on any other project you ever have in mind
  2. Nope. Not that I object to helping. I just don't know how I'd contribute, really. I just learned of it when he was showing off some of the art and talking about it. Seemed like a good opportunity for you.
  3. Lol, don't have that kind of money atm XD

Really not opposed to using discord honestly. I'll let you know when I've made more track. Or hell, just watch the thread.

Btw, you're part of this project too?
  4. It's the main way I communicate with him (and most of my friends). It's kind of a combination of Skype and TeamSpeak. A chat/audio system for friends, designed for gamers. It's much more stable than Skype, and it's a fairly useful system for contacting people, allowing private conversations with individuals or groups, the ability to form your own server, and more. That and the Smashboards forums are the two ways I have to contact him (unless you want to go visit him in Germany).
  5. That's kind of a lot to look into, but it looks okay on the surface. Honestly, though, I consider myself a total amateur at this point, so I'll take whatever means of getting my stuff out there that I can

I have never used Discord XD
  6. Okay. I told him your concerns. Here's his response:
"Honestly I think this is a good place to start just doing it.
We don't have any deadline, expect the game to still be in development for some years and since the entire thing is voluntary and made by fans, progress usually comes in bursts of work with small trickles in-between
The often shifts in momentum can be a bit demotivating at times, but on the plus side no one is asking for regular reports, so if his time/interest in the project or doing music ends up veining there's nothing stopping him from quitting."
So work up whatever sort of presentation portfolio you may like, then I'll put you in touch with him (do you use Discord at all?).

He did want me to let you know that they are using the Creative Commons license system for the project's art for legal reasons, so that you could look into that and make sure you were okay with it.
  7. I'm a 100% newbie at this point, so if they think it's good enough and they're willing to give me time to make these good, I'll happily do it for free Like I said, though, you should maybe wait until around the end of the week until I have more tracks because you can only really say so much about a composer by one track.

Also, just an FYI, the track that I posted in the opening post is reserved for Nutty's project, so like, you can use it as a presentation for the others, but it can't be used in the project itself. I don't think it'll be hard to write something with a similar vibe if you guys want me to, though.
  8. It's a passion project. It actually started out as a ROM-hack until they decided to go their own direction and build everything from scratch. They've been working on it since 2008. So, I don't know that they'd mind the slow rate of progress, as long as you kept it coming. It would be unpaid, though, I believe (though, once the game's complete, they could maybe sell it, and I'm sure you'd get a share of that).
  9. Oh wow. That would be awesome, though at this point, I really only have that one track and don't really know if I can make a lot of music at a consistent enough rate. Plus, I still know absolutely nothing about sound design and don't really have any software to make it sound better yet, so I'm not sure it'd be presentable in a larger project like this yet. Still, it's a great opportunity, so he can show it to the team, though I think it might be smart to wait until I have at least a couple more tracks to show off what I can do.

Also, is this a just a free passion project or an actual thing that's supposed to make money? Because if it's the former, I think I could honestly join at this point to use as a training ground, but if it's paid, I'd need to improve first to make sure I can make it something that won't sink the project
  10. Would you want to compose for a video game project? I have a friend involved with making a spiritual successor to the Shining Force games. They have a fully working engine built from the ground up, some sprite work, good map design... But they don't have a composer, and have been using license-free stuff because of that. He liked your work, though, and if you're interested, he'd showcase it to the rest of his team and see what they think, maybe pull you onboard.
