I'm assuming the fan reaction wasn't really helping matters at that point. btw, just beat the Snow Queen Quest today. Went ahead and tried it without grinding for the ultimate personas. I probably went too early because the only reason I managed to win was because Lilim can absorb all magic, so I ended up cherry tapping the boss to death with just Naoya alive. Fun times. But I still wanted to take that risk if that meant I could save several hours by not grinding.
It's nice for at least making you focus on an idea. I don't think I do NaNo to complete a novel, but at least get off my ass and start working on a project I've been putting off. I don't know, checking some background info, it seemed to me like Team Silent was already kind of dissolving in the background by SH3 as a few key members were already leaving. SH4 itself had several new staff members join Team Silent which is partly why it was so experimental.
Sure, I agree, but I still think it doesn't really deserve the criticism it gets. This is especially bad because the strong reaction against SH4 is probably led to the disbanding of Team Silent and Western developers taking over the series, and we all know how that turned out. Idk, I still might end up doing something for it. But I really doubt I'd be working on a new project. I really need to close some of the stuff I started.
I don't really have anything planned for it, but I have a coworker I encourage to do it, so I might do one to keep her motivated. As for the ghosts, I think it has more to do with the fact their mostly invincible, can phase through walls to chase you down easily, and they can drain your health by just being in close proximity to them makes them a bit annoying to deal with.
Btw, are you planning on doing anything for NaNo this year?
Tbh, I don't think most people who had this reaction took the time to really analyze the intricacies of the ghost mechanics. It's probably a case of "They Changed It Now It Sucks"
Partly because it changed a few things about the series and frankly I agree that the ghosts are kind of a cheap enemy mechanically speaking. Also, people seem to hate breakable equipment.
Idk, I don't think I'm cut out for NaNo. Counting the words I write is exactly the same thing I do at work, and I like my writing to be more of an escape from that rather than a reminder. Also, it's much harder to count words when writing on paper, and that's basically all that I do recently. So yeah, I don't think I'm gonna do it this year. As for the idea, idk. I've decided that I really need to focus on my current projects and finish them up before moving on to new ones because at this rate, I'll get nothing done. Apart from the vampire thing, I also have the aliens thing I had you read a chapter of in the past, and then there's the wacky roadtrip thing. I've started way too many things and the things I've decided to focus on are going at a snail's pace and it's super frustrating. I really need to get mny trout together. Oooh, but I did come up with an idea for the spooky story competition! It's probably not the most original thing, but the atmosphere I have in mind should work great as long as I can really do it justice, so I think I'll probably start writing it soon to get a head start! Btw, one thing I learned when hosting the Vday contest last February is that a panel of judges probably works better than a poll because that way people actually read the longer pieces. Of course, this is just my observation, and if you end up hosting, you'll do whatever feels right, but I thought it'd be a good idea to share my experience. Go in order, imo. It's always better to do it that way. And I think 4 is much more enjoyable, so it's better to leave it for last. I really can't get why so many people consider it such a black sheep, tbh
Well you should probably think about revitalizing it someday, maybe for NaNo this year? There is a part of me that is thinking about skipping over SH3 and doing SH4. I have never actually beaten either of them though and I tend to enjoy doing it in order.
Well that does sound interesting! I'd be interested in reading it myself, too, if you ever feel like sharing. Some time ago I also had a vampire story written as a kind of hook for a larger novel I had planned but that kinda died? I did end up recycling some of those aspects into the Devil Summoner fanfic (basically the main character was dealing with a relationship ending with no hopes of ever getting it back that kind of formed the backbone of Benny's character) and there were two distinct factions of vampires with different rules. On recollecting it, I think it was a cool concept. Shame that it died. Maybe someday. I played SH3 with my wife (as we always do for Halloween gaming) and we also had a couple of tries because she was at a pretty low point at the time and the train death scenes were a bit too real and traumatic to handle at the moment. But in the end, we worked through it, and liked it, though we both agree that both 4 and 2 were better.
