A fugue is a musical style or texture where a subject is entered in one voice in the tonic, and then it is repeated in the dominant as another voice enters and the initial voice plays a counter melody to accompany the subject. This is repeated by all voices and then the subject is developed contrapuntally as the fugue progresses.
