Yeah, same here. If it can be written out of the game, then it isn't necessary. It might still be just for fun, though. Because there's necessary (or fitting) "fanservice", there's fun "fanservice", and then there's simply gratuitous "fanservice." It definitely tends to be a male-driven phenomenon. My opinion is that this is something of a natural and understandable phenomenon (though that doesn't necessarily mean it's acceptable). (4k)
I try not to be "one side or the other" and my beliefs on most things lie somewhere in the middle. Like the political spectrum, I usually end up almost dead center. And I'm the same with this. As I said, I don't mind some sexy characters as long as they're.. you know... characters. There have been some characters who contribute nothing except trying to make you think of sex. And sadly my personal experience is that has been more female characters than male characters who do that Like I've been playing a lot of games recently, and two of them are the Atelier series and the Agarest War series. Both of them have some fanservice to them, but the characters also come with interesting personalities and stories. So then its not such a big issue for me. However there are some games that I otherwise enjoy that come with characters that exist pretty much to be sexy and could probably be written out of the game with there being very little to no difference. That's when it starts to get to me, male or female. Its just that again, I seem to see it more often with women
Most people exist at the extreme ends of a spectrum of choices. The truth usually exists somewhere closer to the middle, or somewhere tangential, in which case the only way to get on track is to get centered, find balance and start over. Though actually, as far as this particular thread goes, I mostly just agree with what you said.
