Yeah good advice all around I guess. It's been a little under eight years but whatever. It's ridiculous.

I've certainly considered trying to make music my career. The problem is first I need to learn to market myself if I'm going to make a living out of it, which is a skill I'm hopelessly unprepared for. Especially since the very idea of marketing makes me nauseous.

what does it matter if that one girl is flaky? just go for it yo. you really need to empty 'em. imagine how badly like 10 years or however bad it's been worth of being backed up is smurfing up your brain.

also man what the smurf is there to be intimidated by? what's the worst that could happen, any interview you attend might be unsuccessful, or the job application might be. that's about it. mebbe it's because you've had a comfortable job for so long but when you lived where I did before and now moving to a new country getting turned down left right and centre it pretty much just rolls off the back.

also you don't need to be going for lifelong happiness yet anyway right? if you're stuck in a rut at your job just go for a change of scenery. meet some new people and try something new, getting new experience is always a bonus as well. also why not try starting to write for metal websites or magazines an' trout, with your comically vast knowledge of the genre and artists it's not entirely unbelievable to think that you could do it. i mean, one day you could actually be getting paid for all this metal you listen to rather than thanklessly clip fixing it for 7 people.

Yeah that was what I did with it until I found sources of political information that were useful. Now I'm on close to every day.

Yeah no kidding. I dunno about that either. I guess I should make something happen.

As to the job, the process of finding and applying for a new job intimidates me mostly and I don't know exactly what would make me happy. I've started a thread on a board I admin where there has been some discussion of these processes but it exploded and it's an intimidating amount of reading already so I'm not learning much from it :<

yep pretty much the same for me, although recently at least i've started actively reading it. before I just had one and then ignored it for 3 months and then went on to add people back who had added me and then that was it.

iirc you were desperate in 2005 let alone 2013 so you should probably try and get something done about that soon dude. smurf why are you stuck in your inane job still anyway you're a smart mothersmurfer why not do something you really want to do

90% of the time I'm in the mood for post-rock I just put on Godspeed, but Talk Talk (specifically their last two albums), Bark Psychosis, and Slint are pretty good if you haven't listened to those.

been smurfing great but also smurfing terrifying spent the last 7 weeks trying to get a job but no luck, was seriously considering going back to england next week because had no other chocie but had an interview today and got offered a full time job so atm i'm full on joy mode.

nah not yet, i'm not really in all that much of a metal stage at the moment, or well anything other than ambience and orchestral trout. i guess some fully atmospheric post-rock would work too.

it's literally like 60% of my FB feed at the moment, just random things you have liked.

i've been listening to VAST's first album lately, that's kind of orchestral. Did you listen to Wintersun yet? That's also pretty orchestral. Haven't been listening to much that would actually qualify as ambient though.
