I obviously can't say for certain since I'm not very knowledgeable about US tax laws, but if he's below the poverty level with you as a dependent I'd be surprised if he didn't get anything back. I suppose it would depend on how much tax was taken out of his pay or however it works there, but there's something deeply wrong if two people living in technical poverty end up owing taxes.
I am trying to figure out if sharky would get money back if he filed his taxes. He makes below poverty level and I'm a dependent. Don't know if it matters, but he's a private contractor.
