I am not amused by the Xenoblade thing
DID YOU SEE ALL THE THINGS?!
It would help if that aspect had been better conveyed by the game. Telling you how many you'd need, things like that. I am a bit miffed at the fact that if just have a handful of mercenaries on my quest to restore the divine realm. Seems ill fitting.
Yep. Still hoping you'll get hooked on the series and come back to IX There are benefits to a player-created party, since the game has a robust job system so there's a lot of thought and strategy you can put into that.
Honestly, the opening of IX was fantastic. There was something oddly refreshing about having a story so simple, so straightforward. You could tell where it was all going (and why). When the event happened, I predicted it completely, even talking in my head to the people around saying "yep, you guys about to get hosed". It was obvious, and yet, satisfying. In this day where everyone (especially Square) seems to want to make everything so complex, convoluted, and intense, having a simple, pleasant experience (made by a non-Nintendo company) was very, very welcome indeed.
Yeah. I never beat VIII on the PS2, but then got really hooked on the series when I started DQI on my iPhone. I later downloaded II and III, then got IV, V, and VI on DS, and now I have VII on 3DS, VIII pre-ordered, and IX is waiting for me on my shelf until after I'm done with VIII I am so glad I got hooked on the series the way I did because its simplistic charm turned out to be something that really helped me feel good about myself. I get how a lot of it can be too archaic for many people, but for me, playing it in order and experiencing everything it has to offer has been an incredible trip that gave me the same feeling old FFs gave me back in junior high when I played them for the first time.
I was about to say that I'd borrowed VIII, and barely started it, but was stymied by the platform. I really feel these sate better suited to portables. Glad they're coming for 3DS.
Judging by how people react to them, start with V or VIII. In V, you get some human party members, but most of the time you have to rely on recruitable monsters. It's interesting in that the story takes place over many years, your protagonist grows up, etc. and all the party members are basically your family and friends of the family. VIII has one of the strongest casts in the series and is very accessible to series newcomers. And it just so happens it's coming out on the 3DS on the 20th
Well, I guess I'm gonna have to settle on lame sayings like "friendship was the true payment all along" or some other bullcrap
Just sent it. Of course, by the time the transfer charges and currency exchanges are done, you'll wind up with nothing. But oh well.
